Hey all, so I procured a couple of Xmax 15's from the local Kijiji

.
Due to my giddiness and because of the rush of a good deal which I still think I got, actually I did

yada, yada. I did not study them very closely

and just had a quick listen to make sure they worked....which they did just fine. Dude and I removed said subs from the sealed enclosure and off I went with a huge ass grin

. After I got home I was caressing

...... errr cleaning them up because they had gathered some dust, I noticed they are not exactly the same..... upon closer inspection it's likely one is a V.2 and the other a V.1

can someone confirm this for me please? the one pic of the back plate is the most obvious clue. the back plate on one is rounded a little and the other is flat. One has yellow glue on the underside for the surround, the other does not. I can post more pic's if needed for more inspection.
The next question I have, are they that much different that running them together is a no go? I have examined the specs and they are technically different driver's from a numbers standpoint. I do have separate chamber's for each sub and will be independantly amped etc.
Kinda a bummer but I'm not sure if I'm gonna keep them or what, just that i got a great deal and so on. Just want to know if this is gonna work. the dude i bought them from had them in a common sealed enclosure and from what i gather they ran just fine together off the same amp for him.
Lets hear what you guys think.

i know some company wteek thing the next year ect you have differnt amp and boxes you have to remeber the clarion you run are far from a perfect sub made cheap and on a puduction line. most are the only sub i know of that were matched were the soundstream blue velvets
if it was me I feal the subs will sound better than the RF,clarion you have been used to
if you don't like them sell them you paid a good price someone here will buy them
sorry i have never used xmax sub but i have to say with the other pg subs i have used they are great vs clarion kenwood ect.... and they look coll with your amp set up

They are different numbers wise, and yes I'm not all that high on Clarion subs.... just what I have at the monent. I'm sure I won't be able to tell a diff. sound wise with one prolly being a v1 andother a v2 but want confirmation from some one who has used these subs before i start a changeover etc. I have no doubt they are better than what i using but It's a hell of a lot of work to change them out. also no one's gonna see them at all, they are behind the seat

Monday we can do it if you want to....

If you have the specs it might be worth the time checking what WinISD has to say for box recommendations... I have to assume that you will be making a box specifically for these..? right right
As long as the motor is the same, I cannot imagine much difference there will be... says Yoda.
Post up the specs if you have a moment to do so!

the difference will be minimal..
if u are looking at it from a numbers game then yeah it will be different but try to modle them on a program and u may find that they are gonna be very close.
put them in 3 cubic ft and tune low
u will like them.
i still have 4 xmax 15s and one 1st gen xmax 15..
7 xmax 12s and i love them all.

The Xmax series had TONS of revisions. Within V1 and V2 there were several revisions of each. They still play together just fine. Since you have a separate box, it will be no problem at all to install them together. Go for it!

Thats what i wanted to hear. Seemed odd to me that one would be v1 and other v2. dude said he bought them new at same time. not sure where but who cares. they do both have plastic pieces/things to attach the speaker terminals to the basket and as far as I can see the wire leads look the same. I'm gonna try to extend the port i have now, which is 4"X8" to get to tune down lower, possibly I can add 10" so it'll be around 18"-20"

. Using An elbow and replacing the one thats in there now with a new longer piece, possibly some of the vent outside the box as no one see's it at all, may be what i do. I've also researched a little bit on polyfill stuffing as I've done this before to fool the sub into thinking it was in a bigger box. had some success with my RF 15's doing this. Found this from ages ago
http://web.archive.org/web/200208082240 ... fiberfill/
I'm not exactly into ripping out all the gear in my trunk, making a new box, although this would be great and all

and then redoing all the sealing from trunk to cabin and crap just to make these work....uh no chance. I'm gonna try it out with the box I have and a new vent(longer)and see how it goes. I fairly sure I'm right around 2.25 cubes as it sits now

. I will keep ya posted. possibly get it done on monday as it's suppose to be nice an warm and I'm on vacation this week

, plus Mikey's garage needs to be used

Interesting you should mention about polyfill.... Better form of that is AP membranes. They are distributed through USD Audio. Because Xmax subs have a low Qts, you can use these mats and basically make a damn small enclosure for the subs
Have you got a front shot of the Xmax, showing the cones themselves?

ive always had great success with polyfill, every box ive made has had poly in it.
Hey tiger arent those AP membranes expensive though? I remember reading about those way back in the early to mid 90's and IIRC they where spendy.

shoot, I don't. I'll post a side by side in about an hour or so after the kids are in bed... Come to think of it the surrounds look very much alike. I'm thinking that there was a revision like Stipud had said. Still not sure which version these are. Anyone????5

Aperiodic membranes need to be vented outside of the car though, or at the very least you need to wall off your sub IB style so the backwaves that travel through the vent cannot enter the cabin. At that point you might as well just run IB subs IMO!

Ok here they are.....
also on a side note, If I Had kept some of the items of the past year, I would have a nice collection goin on.... The OG 2250 in lamb's clothing, Reactor #5 and now these. All which were obtained for great prices

There's something about the shear size of the 15's and up that say lets get it on.
Oh well the regrets.....

Anyhoo here's the pic's not alot of diff if you ask me.

x2. This is correct. There were two main revisions, but several other small ones in between.
