I have to build a box very soon for my RSDC124. It will be going in the back of my ext cab Canyon and will be MDF and fiberglass.I really like SPL but I am also into SQ systems and usually built sealed enclosures that usually turned out to be decent SPL boxes. How well does this sub do in a ported enclosure? Would it still have a decent SQ or will it be too boomy. Gonna run it off the roadster66 sub channel. Anybody here that can design me a ported box? I have no idea how to tune a box to a certain frequency and don't know what frequecy my truck would perform well with.

I will be happy to help map it for you in WinISD. I usually tune it to 31Hz ported.

... As everyone probably knows by now, I am not a big fan of sealed boxes. A properly designed ported will destroy a sealed box.

I imagine the Cs are made for ported where the regular RSd might be better for a sealed box. Just my guess though. Brian will have to chime in on it.

its does fine in a ported box. you might even port it a bit under 31. the response is already similar to many ported boxes. so i hope your midbass is ready for a workout!

Pillow that would be great if you could design me something. What do you need from me? measurements from truck? Brian my midbass will be from my RSD 65CS. Would a ported box be quite a bit bigger? Space is kinda tight.

Ported will be bigger by almost twice as much! The response curve is already pretty low end bias (20-40) so a port will enhance that further. So if you're midbass is ready for that the do it!

Personally I would run two sealed instead of one ported... same volume, less output bias towards the tuning frequency, and none of the other detrimental effects of porting (delay, noise).

Granted I need to know what your sub-sonic filter is, and what you like your bass to sound like? Most people like a bump in the 45s (freeeee deeebeees).

I already have 1 RSDC124 dual 4 ohm to run off of my roadster66 mono channel and chose 1 because I didn't wan't to take up too much room in the ext cab I just wanted to put 1 between the rear seats. As for processors I will be using my oldschool orion psw300 preamp EQ and the amps internal crossovers with an lpl posibly a basscube. I usually like a nice tight punchy bass,but like to be able to boom if I want to.

Damn the Roadster66s specs are great! I shoulda bought one instead of hunting down ZX amps all day!

Here's a graph, 2x sealed vs 1x ported 3", both in 2cuft. The ported box should be louder from 20-50Hz, where it matters. So go for it, I guess! I just worry about it being less tight than the sealed setup... if you had a 10 or a sub with a higher frequency bias I would have no problem, but a low tuned sub like this can sound a bit boomy when ported. I had that issue with my Ti's... sounded awesome sealed, but not ported. My Xmax however sounded better ported than sealed. I have heard a lot of people liking the RSDC10's ported, but not much experience with the 12's, so I am definitely curious.

Anyways I'm sure if you don't like it you can always try another box or sub. What fun would this hobby be without a little trial and error?

I hate the PG SPL setup ported... Essentially the same as a sealed box!

The SQ ported is tuned for 25Hz. Max power needed 499W at 25Hz. BUT the cone overextends at 36Hz by .5mm. Not sure what effect this would have in the real world.

Granted I kind of like the 2.5 SQ ported specs... I might tighten up the box to get some more air dampening...

Flat and LOW. A little modification from the PG SQ ported recommendation.

2.5 cu ft box tuned to 27Hz
4" ID port in a 15.75" length (3" = 8.25" chuff chuff)
Max power needed 493W at 27Hz
Max excursion 14.66mm at 37.5Hz

Set the subsonic filter at 27Hz
Est high side cutoff 90Hz (this is up to you - 90 works for me)

SPL about 114-115dB through the range.

If you need a PVC port please let me know! I have a ton of 4" and 6" pipe... Yah I have 3" as well, but I recommend against it.
