Can I get rid of this thing?

So I am looking at the wiring harness for my Alpine 9887 and it has an enormous inline fuse thing. Is there anything else that the little brick does? Can I just replace it with a normal inline fuse of the same amperage?

I've done it before on an old Sony deck. Mine was a big black box with 2 screw and clips, which contained a 15A fuse inside, replaced it with a inline fuse that you turn to open, never had trouble and saved me lots of room, since in the Cavalier you don't have much space behind your deck, since the ventilation docks passes there.

IIRC-
Alpine puts a filter inline to kill any alt whine and things of that nature....

Can't say about alpine, but my sony was only a big fuse holder... If there is a filter in yours, you should not remove it then...

Oh, ok. I figured there had to be something else in there. The fuse part is only on the one end. My truck doesn't have a ton of space, but I guess I will just stuff it in there somehow.

Or you could use a smaller box, or even simply remove everything from it and use heatshrink to secure the connections.

I have installed hundreds of radios and never had to cut one of these off to fit it. Take some time to tie all the wires together and then tuck them in back and it will fit.........
