Phoenix Gold Phorum

Can't seems to have a good reason, but i now want to change my front speakers even if they sounds good. I'd like to put some more PG gears on my car, so this is my chance

Anyway, i have a 4x6 to 6.5 speaker adaptor in my doors, so i was looking for some 6.5 speakers, and i ran across a nice kit from PG, the Ryval V65C. Then i started searching around the forum and didn't find many info on them.

I have few questions before i decide myself in buying thoses.

- First one is, they are rated 50W RMS per side. Is it underrated or is it the true RMS? I'll be powering them with my Blaupunkt amp, which provide 65W RMS per channel, so i just want to be sure i won't be blowing them with too much power.

- Second one is, i've read lots of topics on this forum where it says you must not put the tweeter too far away from the woofer, or it will not give a good sound. I was thinking about putting the tweeter in a custom gauge pod, so it would be fairly far from the woofer. Is this an issue?

- Then come the crossover part. I'm still in the learning of Active vs Passive, i've been looking for tutorials and infos on google, but don't quite get it. Is the crossover in this kit any good?

That's about it for now. Oh and also, i'm not looking to enhance my bass anymore, i have plenty with the XS subs, i'm looking to get more high/vocal out of my system. Is this kit okay for my use?

From my understanding, this kit has passive crossover, and from what i've read, most of you thinks of them as garbage right?

Ok, so what is your opinion? Should i get theses? Or maybe the RSD65cs ones?

I run passive in my car...and will be active at home....

active will sound better I think....

There's nothing wrong with using a passive crossover for your purpose. Running an active crossover would require you to change out a lot more of your gear!

Personally I would suggest spending the extra couple dollars on a set of RSD components. They are probably the best bang for the buck drop in speakers on the market. Lots of midbass, smooth midrange and treble. Shouldn't be much more expensive than the ryvals.

It's definitely possible to run your tweeters up in the a-pillar area. It's harder, but not impossible to blend them there. You would play around with the phase of the speakers by switching the +- outputs on the crossovers for the mids/tweeters on opposing sides, to see which sounds best.

I've decided to go with the RSD components. Payment was just cleared! I arranged a deal with the seller, he will declare thoses as Parts to repair, and a value of 15$, so UPS should not kill me with theses! And it should come within a week, so not too bad of a deal! Total cost is 130$ CAD with shipping. Will reinstall the Boss speakers in my girlfriend's car, so no loss here
