Amp cooling fan airflow direction

I've noticed all PG amp fans draw air into the amp, has anyone tryed reversing the air flow so the hot air is forced out? I know in the computer world fans blow the hot air out sucking air through the heatsink rather then blowing air into the sink. This works alot better for disapating heat. Any oppinions? I will be doing some testing with a Ti600.2 after it comes off my wall in the near future...

The way i see it, the amp suck fresh air from the middle and blow the hot air from the sides. If you have 2 or more amps mounted side to side, i guess sucking air from the sides would make it take more hot air from the other amps, but air from the front of the amp should be cooler...

Anyway my amp worked good so far so i don't think i'll try to mess with the fan to see if it makes a difference :p

Not sure what heat sinks you run...I have a few racks of servers that all blow into the heatsink ....

I thought my octane LE blew the air out of the amp

I was reffering to CPU heatsink/fan

Same here, just looked, both my personnal computer, the girlfriend's one and my server are mounted like this...

Yep, all the rackmount IBMs I admin have fans in the front sucking air into the device and pushing it through the heatsinks which are behind them.

Ok guys thankx for the critisizm on my polish computer fans, I was originaly asking if anyone had any experiences reversing the fans to obtain better cooling in their amps. Thats all I was asking. Too many people here are out to try and prove wrong with something that doesn't matter or apply to the original question in the end of it all. My CPU fan blows the hot air away from the cpu pulling air through the sink, kind of like a rad in a car. Air gets sucked through not pushed through. I will post my findings after I run some tests if I have time later this week for anyone interested.

I have not been able to figure out till that post if you were cooling your pc or your amp to tell you the truth, I think we were all confused...

That I know of only dell computers use the fan on the case with a shroud to pull air through the heatsink out of the case.

I have an older Dell that has a fan in the back that pulls air out of the case.
Front panel removes to clean the front filter.
There is a green shroud that attaches directly over the cpu sink then to the fan body.
One side of the shroud is open in line with the the sink for air intake inside the closed case.

Not sure, haven't opened a older amp in awhile. Isn't there a divider between the sinks and the board in the ZX/ZXTi amps.
The fan is directly over the sinks?

I don't know about the amps the only one I have with fans is a ms2250.

on my octane I am 90% sure that the fans blow out from the amp. There is a divider between the boards and the heat sinks but on mine I mounted fans just outside of the amp to help blow air into the side of the amp.

OK the original question is about the fans in the amps. The ZX, Ti and ZPA's. These all blow air into the amp for cooling. I want to know if it would be better to suck the air out the amp through the fan instead. I used the term "computer world" too loosly. I'm big into overclocking my computers. For optimum cooling its best to suck the air away from the heatsink not blow into it. That is a whole nother topic, I just want to know about the amps. I hope this clearifies my question... NE1?

the best thing to do is a push-pull where you mount a 2nd fan to help the 1rst one, as for reversing it I would think that they probably tested it since it would be so simple to try but I might be wrong...

Ti, ZX, ZPA and Xenon all pull in then exhaust out the sides. Sometimes its hard to tell depending on speed and the heat.

Sometimes exhaust works better, just depends on the design....

can you confirm in the octane LE is backwards then? I would assume because of the design but not for sure.

The best way to tell wich way a fan is going is to use a peice of paper. Just "feeling" the air with your hand is deceiving.

yea, pretty sure I did that. I also prefer to use smoke when I have access to it.

Infact I can remember a system I did for a buddy with zx amps that I was just reminded of. We flush mounted his 2 zx amps along with a single 10 in a wall behind his back seat. We were concerned that it was not going to allow it to move enough air and I can remember the other installer using a cigarette to test where the air was moving from/to. I remember that we held it up to the holw where the seat belt came through the factory trim panel and that smoke was drawn into the hole, as though the fan was blowing out, and sucking the air into the side....

Maybe after all the years I have the memory backwards?

Ti uses a variable speed fan. If its not hot might not be easy to tell.

Zx is two speeds. Pulling in then exhaust out to the sides.

Also the center of the Octane has no vents so maybe not as easy to see.
