Crimpless soldered cable ends.

I'm posting these in case maybe you haven't seen them before.

They're used in welding and many industrial applications.
The company I get them from use them for welding and battery/starter cables.

We've never had any problems with cables with these ends attached.
I've worked there for over 10 years now.

I've seen batteries held attached to the chassis with the cables alone after a accident.

Crimpless lugs I believe.
I've found them on-line before looking for welding cable.

I have found that if you buy the cheapy ones the solder pellets are hard to insert into the ends.

The better ones like pictured above let the pellets fall all the way into the ends.

This helps when you heat them. The solder and rosin bubble but do not overflow.
The cheaper ones won't let the pellet fall all the way in and make somewhat of mess when they bubble over.

money-b for you man.
Let me know what ends you need.
I can get 8ga,4ga, 0/1 ga up to 4/0ga ends and pellets.

Let me know. I think I can get enough for you to do the big "3".
Six to eight ends if you need them.

Those look nifty!

So I'm assuming you basically hold the lug with a vice (or pliers maybe?) and then heat with a torch? And once the the solder is molten you insert the cable?

I'll definitely have to try this. Looks like a much better technique than the guys who try to apply solder through just the opening of a lug.

Thanks for sharing :thumleft:

Yep pretty much like that. You will need both hands free, one for the torch and the other to hold the wire.
I used a pair of vise grips to hold the lug up-right.

Look for Quick cable I just went thru their site. http://quickcable.com/details.php?partno=486310
They have them with the solder already in the base of the lugs.

i wonder does it take allot of heat to get the solder to melt like do you use a propane torch or something to get it hot enough?

Yes a torch is the best to heat the ends.

Ok gbody, now I get the pellets, perfectly pre measured. Nice, and almost fool proof.

 Yea almost. After maybe the second one it will be fool proof.

I've found several different companies with these but so far the quick connect looks to be the easiest.

what is the material they are made of? Looks like just steel which would scare me to know how quick it was going to corrode. I guess you could just smear the cream on them but I have never liked doing that myself as it looks ugly. Do they make these out of stainless or something?

These are tinned solid copper lugs.
I wasn't sure either untill I cut one down the middle.
