what would you pay?

Post by ttocs »

I bought a pockets sized oscilliscope to use in tuning my system. It is smaller then my hand but still give good enough readings to see when the signal is clipping to allow you to properly tune your system. I don't think anyone on her would disagree that an oscope is much better then a meter for this, the problem is that most people do not have access to a scope. Would $10 rental fee+shipping costs(which would be low because of size) for the scope and a cd with tuning tracks to do this sound fair? I would proably need some kind of deposit to ensure the scope makes it back to me but otherwise, is this something anyone would do? I figure that you would keep it for a week or two, I am easy to deal with and could make arrangements to suit you.

I think you should rent out the scope and tuning services... just come over and tell me when I hit clipping... I'll give you 20.00 and a beer or two for the trouble. 8)

if your paying travel expenses then sure!

Scoping a system is actually pretty easy, just hook up the leads and look for when it clips. This is also only needed to be done once and then you can enjoy it.

I might even be willing to let one of you meter-preachers use it for nothing more then shipping and a deposit just to see what kind of a difference we would get between what the multimeter and the scope.

If you're talking about that $100 oscope in the other thread where you posted the link I bought the same one off ebay for $70 a while ago. Works like a charm.

All I can say is this is a hell of a great idea. With the deposit concept, you should be able to cover yourself, and especially so if you only rent it out to reliable people.

I bet someone, maybe even myself, could write up a detailed by simple enough tutorial on using it, which you could print out and send with it to help people out.

One question on this product though, is it a differential or grounded input? Under certain circumstances, it could fry an amplifier if it is not a differential input. Additionally, I am sure certain amps have enough voltage to fry it. I still think this can work, but just giving you a heads up on some potential issues you might run into.

no need to buy it if you just want to rent mine. I don't think $10 is a rip off as most shops would certainly charge more. The other great thing about this is by learning some of the basic functions of a scope will help other part of theory(such as clipping) make more sence. IT would come with full instructions with it, as soon as I am familiar with it.

Playing around with it, it looks like it can even emhzmit its own freqs to test it with? I see I can adjust it from 10 hz to over 1 but does it play out of the usb port?

gonna be reading alot tonight.

does it sound like a fair price? I am not looking to get rich on this hell I would be suprised if I get 10 people and make my $100 back but this is my responce to the amp tuning with meters. Now rather then bitch and moan how much better this will be when it gets brought up I will just offer this....

Did you get the same scope as well Tom? I was thinking about it but decided on a TPI-440 instead. I'd be interested in your input and possibly a comparison Eric.

I got this from some other industry pros that have been using it and speak well about it which is why I got it. I already found a metal case that would be great to ship it in.

I would like to find another probe that I could just solder an rca end to to make it even easier to do. it almost looks like a satalite radio antenna end but if anyone has any more info on probes for these let me know.

$10 is a good deal actually.
Not sure how much the phone bill will be from asking you a ton of questions on how to use it.

I'd love to rent yours, but 10$ wouldn't even cover shipping to quebec... But thanks for proposing! If i was near you, i'd definitly take the offer!

10$ seems like a very nice price to have fun with your system!

I got free long distance but they are not really all that hard to use. I don't think there is much of a way you could mess up the scope or any of your equipment.

the instrucions would have brief how to. I would probably direct someone to a link to read about what the squares on the screen mean both horozonally and vertically.

not sure what the cost would be, the package I have is about the size of a large wallet @ 13cm x 11cm x 3cm and no weight.

I didn't know you can save wave-form files onto a micro SD card! That would make it even easier as all you would have to do is call up that curve, then set your curve up to match it........

$10 is a steal for sure. To adjust a system correctly, people would pay a ton for a shop to do it. Plus doing it yourself is worth the piece of mind.

great! Glad to know we agree. Like I said I think the knowledge gained will also go to help everyone on here be better installers too! I am going over the instructions now to see what it can all do and it is an impressive little thing about the size of an iphone. Screen has good resolution and is easy to read everything. I am sure we will have a hickup or two but it should not be too hard to work through.
