1) how in the hell do you remove the black wrinkle powder coat finish?

its tuff as a sun of a gun

2) what is the white grease used inside the amps between the body and the circuitry. do i need to purchase more when i put it back togeather or is it fine without?

gonna need some good stripper. Not sure about that powder but I know to strip the Ti powder I found a citrus stripper at walmart that worked fairly well.

powder coat is very difficult to remove... can be done....but w/o proper abrasives or chemicals... you'll be there all afternoon and then some.

you can try something that is called superstrip... sold at sherwin williams's stores....but even i had trouble with that as it is not the best stuff out there...

I use B-17- which is sold in gall, 5-gal or 30gal drums.
and for just your one application i wouldnt think you would want to absorb that cost of 130 per gall to do just this one time task....
Perhaps i could sell you a quart or something- but not too keen on shipping hazardous materials, can be done...BUT very very expensive, and would have slight concern about breakage or something and then acid is all over carriers hands... yuck!

Powder is very tough shit... thats why powder is what it is... more durable than paint and stuff. BUT can be removed, but w/o the proper gear- you best pack a lunch

heard someone say before (like an urban legend) that oven cleaner rips it off....? but havent had/tried any of that given i have the B-17, and sand blasting booth...


in lieu of all that- suppose you could ship me the metal parts you want stripped and i could the stripping for you and send back for your own custom paint job... 1 day turn-around, as all i would do is toss it into the tank of B-17

Matt, does commercial paint stripping acid take off powder? There is a place near me that strips paint and rust off anything metal. They dip in in their huge acid tanks, then burn it. Metal comes back bare, shiny and new looking. Very effective. If this works for powder you just need to find your local paint stripping service.

be interesting for me to learn what acid or chem's they have in their tank...
never does mine come out shiny and new... i still have to degrease and stupid shit like that- and in 99.867 of the cases i would be sand blasting anyways to etch a nice even profile on the metal for better adhesion and ultimately a better finish

if all else failes, go to a pools supply store and get muratic(sp?) acid but the citristip I found at wally world worked like a charm on the ti powder.

what is the white stuff in the amp, do i need it?

sounds like you mean the heat transfer paste? It goes on the back of the transistors and will help them transfer heat to the heat sink so it can cool well enough.

It can be found at most electonics stores, yes you do need it.
