MS 275 Gray Questions
Hi everyone! My brother just purchased an MS275 on eBay and wanted me to ask you guys your thoughts. He has a 2-way CS265 Profi Rainbow Vanadium setup that he's installing. His question is, Do you think this will run the components efficiently? And he's also curious about the differences between the white ones and gray ones. I know nothing about the MS amps other than the fact that they seem to be coveted on our phorum.
Here's the specs on the speakers...
Product Features
Profi Vanadium Line RANGE
6.5" (165mm) 2-way component system.
component speaker system includes mid-range speakers, tweeters, and crossovers
PROFI VANADIUM LINE specifications:
180W maxmimum power
120W RMS Power handling
Sensitivity:90db
Frequency response: 39 - 25.000 Hz
Crossover Frequency: 2.400 Hz
Thermal Protection
Mounting depth without / with ring:66 / 64mm (6.5" speaker )
Midrange
Extremely stiff special plastic compound basket for resonance-free operation.
Chromium-plated screw terminals for high quality cables with large diameters.
Despite use of aluminum compound cone on a polymer cellulose base, authentic sound reproduction.
Innovative concave dust cap for best frequency response.
Butyl rubber surround for controlled cone motion and minimal distortion.
Machined aluminum phase plug for phase correction around the crossover frequencies and additional cooling for magnet motor.
Extremely flexible surface-refined lead wires fixed via glue-points to guarantee resonance- and break-free operation.
Vented magnet system for better magnet motor cooling and vented dust cap to prevent thermal compression.
Vented spider to prevent compression.
Duroplastic-backed and vented voice coil with temperature-resistant glue.
High temperature 37 mm voice coil former of black kapton for minimal current loss and maximum excursion.
Optimized ferror-ceramics magnet for high sensitivity with additional cooling via aluminum backplate.
Tweeter
Aluminum compound dome on a polymer cellulose base for authentic sound reproduction.
Neoprene surround for controlled cone motion.
Tweeter dome with hand-stamped anti-resonance rim.
Felt pad underneath the tweeter dome to prevent turbulence.
Connected acoustic volume for low-resonance frequency and optimal linear frequency response.
8-holed backplate to connect tweeter to the acoustic volume.
High efficiency neodymium magnet with reversible magnet energy up to 175 degrees Celsius.
Ferrofluid-free magnet system for fast and precise pulse response.
Vented voice coil former with flexible stainless steel lead wires.
Crossover
Profi Vanadium Line crossovers are remarkable for their intrinsic features. Fitted with low-impedance and low-distortion foil capacitors, they provide high saturation, excellent fidelity, and faithful phase linearity throughout the treble range. The low-impedance, low-stray coils ensure minimum power loss at the crossovers. Chromium plating ensures the best possible connections, and the variable tweeter level attenuation in combination with the HALO-system prevents excessive treble output.

No help?
I figured you guys could help him out. He brought over the Vanadium set today to let me drool over it. Very nice looking stuff... reminds me of Hybrid Audio.
Now the fugger just needs to pay since I let him buy it with my account. not sure what he's using for processing but I recommended that he browse around the phorum's buy and sell page. any ideas on that?

Oh ok.. I guess I just heard that the gray ones were better in some way and more sought after. I'll let him know... I suggested he go with an old school PG amp so I'm hoping I don't let him down. I've never auditioned any MS amps... I loved my old ZPA0.5... to this day I've never heard cleaner bass from 2 IDQ tens than when I ran them off of the ZPA. That amp truly impressed me in every way except for it's big footprint. Someday when I can afford it I'd love to run 2 ZPAs in my system... until then I will just daydream.todd217 wrote:the only differences are in the revisions not the colors. it should be enough power to run them. im now using a ms275 for sub duty.

okay
if it is grey its gonna have some differneces
one is that it had the ability to sync power supplies together with other ms amps to reduce hedrodyne noise. nwer revison the master slave was remvoed due to installers and cst not understanding how to use it
second.
the power supplies on the later revisions are gonna be more stable at lower impedence loads.
newer revisions have bigger speaker and power wire inputs then older revisons.
other then that the rest of the differneces are minimal but
speaker wire was changed to zeropoint 10 gauge versus older wire being 7 gauge
updated mods to boards.

Sinfoni Amplitude 90.2
I just made a deal for my bro with a guy in Portland for this amp in Mint Condition. My brother is going to use the MS275 to run a single IDQ10D2v3 and this amp for his components. I sealed the deal at $175 shipped!! Is that a good price?? My brother has a permagrin since I told him the quality he's putting in his car compared to the prices he's getting.
Any first hand knowledge of this amplifier? I've heard people raving about these amps but have never had the pleasure of auditioning one. let me know, thanks guys!

I have never heard one myself(sorta wished to have a matching set of them.
they are very high end amps
but with that said some people love or hate the sound.
that why alot of people love the high end sound of pg and some other
both clean with out put and great head room
some will say they like or hate the 12db xover
myself i like them other want and like 18 or 24
spec wise its very close the ms275
let us know if you brother like the sound
price is only good if you like what you bought!

I agree about the price only being good if you like it. I'm just curious if he should use the MS amp to run the mids and tweets or the Sinfoni. The way he looks at it if he doesnt like the Sinfoni he can sell it for more than he paid. I just did some research and the price was very good.thanks for the feedback.

Sinfoni makes great sounding amps. I'm sure he will be smitten.
Make sure you replace the caps in the MS amp before it is used though! If it hasn't been done before it's days may be numbered!
By the way, that cheesy fan in the plexi was added by someone else. They didn't come with that fan... no point with the heat sink being on the other side

We looked at high resolution pics and it looks beautiful. He even has the original reciept and box which he included. Serial numbers match from the box and the amp. I figure my bro is gonna get a SQ boner when I install this for him. He has some box building skills so he's making a sealed enclosure. This is going in a 01 M5 with the sub firing through the fold down rear center armrest. He's using an alpine CDA-7998 Phantom face unit. This setup is getting me kinda excited for him. I gave him some super nice XLN Pro monster rca cables to use and a bunch of PG speaker cable I had from years back. sorry, I don't have any of the cable left. I'll post pics once we get him all set up.kg1961 wrote:100% at that price as long as it works and its oem not been pcs together like another amp i have seen on the forum.
I would take it off his hands to try it!!!let me know![]()
hope its as good as it gets

Ditto that....the Sinfoni does sound great and is a quality piece but truthfully....you do not get a lot of headroom or brightness out of those speakers with Sinfoni. I've ran the Shadow edition amps to power my Rainbow Profi's and they just didn't have enough.....shall I say "power". They definitely sounded very smooth and detailed but..... anyway good price on the amp.itchnertamatoa wrote:that sinfoni @ $175.00 is a steal
I'll buy it off him for the same price ....
He'll love those speakers. I don't run the Vanadium's...(I bought the Profi's ...didn't like the sound of the Van Alloy's vs the paper Profi's) but the Cal 26 titanium tweet that comes with the Van line is much more detailed than my Cal 26 silk.
Good luck

Well guys.. My brother got the amp today! Check it out. The thing that amazed me was how small this thing is. It's small but VERY heavy for it's size/ Another thing that caught my eye was the seperate crossovers for each of the two channels...nice. He likes the amp but not as much as me. I'm trying to get him to trade me for my Arc Audio 2500CXL. Although I love the Arc I figured I could move my Z600c2sl to run my 2 IDQs and use the Sinfoni on my CDT components. My only concern is if the Sinfoni will power my CDT 3-way Eurosports efficiently. It may be a little underpowered but I suspect that the SQ will make up for the lack of SPL.
Hmmm.... Just a thought. What do you guys think?
