Hi All

Need some help with the following equipment which i had for free never been used :

1 set of kicker comps 6.5 with crossovers and tweets
1 PG octane 5.04 4 channel
2 PG octane 5.01 mono's
1 set of PG octane 5" r speakers
1 mtx 12" sub 4512-04

i had all the above free with no manuals the questions i have are

1. do i need to use the kicker crossovers and tweeters or can i just use the speakers on there own wired direct in the 5.0.4 amp

2. can i use the 2 mono amps to run/power the 1 mtx 4512-4 sub if so how, would i use sub out from head unit to 1st mono then rca's to next mono and how would i connect the sub to 2 amps?

3. any idea where i can get any manuals so i can set up the amps

cheers jenko

1 -you can definitely use the speakers by themselves on the amp if you wanted to. this is typically called running active. the passive kicker crossover is the easiest way to go in most situations though.

2 - technically yes... the sub you have is a single voice coil sub. so without a piece of equipment that can swap the phase of one amp to trick the amp into being able to "strap" on to each other, you will not be able to.

if the sub was a dual voice coil, then you would be able to fairly easily. there is a section in the manual called "spl example" where they show you how to use the amps in a "master/slave" setup.

the octane 5.01 is best used with a 2ohm sub. you have a 4ohm sub, so the amp will only be putting out half of its full power

hope this helps!

before Everyone will say if you stay Pg the rsd or rsdc

Im a fan of Jl and focal they would work great also

of course i would say rsdc :P but there are a ton of good subs out there, and i dont know what subs are easy to find where you live.

but if you only want to use 1 amp, use a 2ohm sub (or dual 4 voice coil )

if you want to use both amps on 1 sub (which is complicated, but still possible) you need to find a sub with dual 2ohm coils

how would i wire 1 of those subs to 2 amps ?

would it be better just to get i 2ohm dvc how would i wire it on the amp

it would be easier, and more likely to last if you just got a 2ohm SVC (4/4 dvc) sub

the master/slave amp setup is usually only used by spl competitors. its difficult to mach the amps properly so the 2 coils get the same power.

Thanks for that

out of the 4 subs recommended above using just 1 5.0.1 amp what sub would put with the 5.0.1 amp

thanks for all your help

With one amp and one sub you need: single 2 ohm (rare) or dual 4 ohm

With two amps and one sub you need: dual 2 ohm

Yep, exactly. You can use both of your amps to run that one!

Alternatively of course you can get two D4's and run one each with its own amp.

It cooould... but a dual 4 would be ideal for 1 amp.

1 amp: dual 4
2 amp: dual 2

That's all there is to it!
