I have a bunch of resin, MDF and fleece sitting around my garage and I'm considering putting it to good use. I've been using Q-logic kicks for a while and although they sound ok i'd like to get my 4" ES-4 and DRT-26 tweeters in something sealed. I've done a little fiberglass work on some sailpanels but no kicks. I've watched several tutorials where people have made some decent stuff. Anyone have some ideas or could someone point me in the right direction? The thought of this project just scrares me. I know that I won't need a ton of airspace for the mid and tweet so I was thinking something small with some nice angles for imaging.

what are you hoping to gain from sealing your 4 and tweeter off?

it the hood pull stll part of teh drivers kick in that year?

Not sure... I was hoping for a little top end clarity. In my experience components seem to break up at higher volumes when they are not sealed. maybe it's just my tonedeaf ears.

So why not seal off the back of your q-forms?

I did use some tupperware but the enclosure is super tiny... I was hoping for a little more airspace. and the kicks are plastic so i will have a hard time with glass. hmm.

Are you set on putting them in the kicks?

I put my mid in a fiberglass enclosure in the door. pretty simple really, but VERY time consuming.

Those look nice . I have my 6.5" midbass in the doors. My 4"and tweets are in the kicks. but yeh... I like the imaging I get from the kicks.

That's ok. If it sounds the way (for the most part) that you want.....

Yeh... I have built a few fiberglas items but nothing as complicated as kicks. as for sex I was a natural, lol.

I can give you my thoughts/opinions on how/what to do if you so desire. I can PM you my cell # and we do it in a quicker manner.

I was considering that! I was thinking that I could tape up the entire surface then stretch oversome fleece... once it cured I would trim around the q-forms and pop it off... at the same time while this is happening I would make the back piece against the corner of the truck. then I would put them together with some layers of batting and viola! hmm... sounds fun!

Ya know... Someone needs to corner this market and create some nice sealed, braced kicks for different vehicles. There is nothing out there unless you want to pay out the butt for custom work. The Q-forms are ok but nice sealed units would attract more SQ oriented people like the people on this forum. hmm... maybe I'll just have to get good at it and try to made some sort of mold to create multiple pairs. Even if I made them only for the Silverad/Tahoe/Suburbans I would have people ordering left and right. I know! I've been on Chevy forums where people are begging for this type of thing.

I would think that sealing the kick might help the low end responce of the speaker but with a 4" I would not expect too much more out of it.

it would probably be easier epoxy a nice thick tupperware type enclosure to the back if I really wanted to do it.

I did that and it really helped... maybe im expecting too much. maybe i should work on deadening my doors better.

Yea, I wouldn't expect to much from a 4" myself. In a 3-way set up, they're usually played between 500Hz-5kHz, I too would try deadening the doors. For our trucks it's easy and very beneficial.

The doors are deadened with 3 layers... 2 layers of fatmat butyl and a layer of damplifier pro. i sealed them up the best i could. My midbass is lacking compared to what I've heard that the ES-6 will do. CDT told me to not put them in an enclosure and that they are designed for IB.

I have a bunch of clay that I ordered that I haven't used yet... maybe i will use that around my midbass in the doors. My Z600c2sl with the spx-2 crossover set at 60hz should be beating the snot out of my doors. hmm...

Did you switch the phase? I'm sure you did, but had to ask.

Is the mid bolted TO the door or TO the door panel? I had a metal ringing sound when I had mine mounted TO the door. I had to get rid of that by making the pods for mine. Different speakers though I know.

Other then that, maybe a bit of EQ bump in the 80-200Hz area.

Actually I didn't switch the phase yet. And the mid is bolted to a 3/4" mdf baffle and the baffle is sealed around the edges with silicone.

All I would is use sound deadening on the inside of the q-forms so there is no vibration left on them and mount them back on the truck they will be pretty sealed anyway and with the sound deadener they will sound a lot better than without it.
Check the for sale section of the phorum I am selling some sets of how to dvd's if you're set on making kicks.

did you deaden the tupperware as well? I don't think a different enclosure would "buy" you very much and when you start talking about glass enclosures, both time and money will be figured into that pric.

Yeh... I put a few layers of sound deadener inside the tupperware. I also sprayed it with rubberized deadener. I'm starting to understand that maybe it's my source. The Eclipse DVD/CD unit isn't all that great. I measured the rca voltage at 3/4 volume and got less than a friggin volt! I turn it up to 95% and got 2.5v. This was of course with a 60hz sinwave. I'm just not impressed at all with the unit. Damn, I said "unit" quite a bit, lol. My brother doesn't like the look of the DRZ9255 so I may trade him some stuff for it. I have some 20" rims from my old 5 series beimer that I've been storing in my garage for 3 years... he wants them sooo bad for his M5. Hmm... Maybe I'll see if he wants to trade? The rims are worth more than the deck but I'll never use them again and he'd jump on the trade in a heartbeat. He has been eyeing an older Alpine CDA DVD/CD DIN unit and seperate screen. ok, I'll stop rambling. I'll see what he has to say... I love that friggin Clarion! So classy looking! He likes flashy lights and motorized faceplates.
