im a diyma regular, but i figure this will be a much more appropriate place to share this little project. im not going to get crazy with it. mainly because im still a newb at this stuff. but im picking it up quickly. just gonna replace the caps that had issues, reflow some iffy looking joints, and get it running again. here it is post cap removal:

here you can see where the melt-down occured:

i somehow managed to get the large snap-ins out without pulling a via, but i did loose 2 solder-pads. thats an easy fix though. here is a macro shot of the charcoal:

my desk where i have been spending ALL my spare time for the last couple months. fun-stuff!

ive got the parts ordered. just playing the waiting game now. in the meantime i will apply some elbow grease and attempt to clean the board up nice and spiffy. anybody got any good tips for cleaning this 20yr old rosin up?

and also, apparently the transistors were soldered AFTER the board was installed in the heat-sink?

probly a good idea to go ahead and flow some fresh solder into these critical joints that are pretty much relying on the via only for current flow?
will update as i get more done.
