PG Rsd Dual Voice Coil Question?

I just bought one of the rsd 12d for my friend and his amp sucks and only puts out 250 rms at 4 ohms bridged. Am I able to hook up the rsd on only one voice coil to achieve the 250 rms at 4 ohms?

if it is a dual voice coil system, then no you cannot hook up just half of the speaker that is not how it was designed to work.

What would happen if it was hooked up to only one coil? would it just blow the sub?

you *could* wire it for 8ohms.
its not optimal, but its safe. the amp will only put out about 1/2 its rate power

Say I am looking at the sub and the dustcap upright and there is the terminals up top and below. Which side do I connect the amp to and which side do I wire together? Maybe a diagram?

Sure, but the only way to hook it up mono is to bridge it at 8 ohms then. Otherwise, I could hook it up to 2 ohms and power the sub on the left or right channel haha. It still would be the same amount of power being pushed though either way. The only other way I could achieve more power on that 2 channel amp of my friend's is to hook up each coil to its own channel. The amp is rated at 85 rms per channel at 4 ohms. So like 40 more watts then hooking it up to an 8 ohm load bridged.

true^ one thing to consider is stereo music, which could put different amounts of signal to the left and right channels.
if the deck has a "sub" out that shouldn't be a issue. but if you are using the "rear" outs of a deck, or even a high/low converter. you may want to snag some cheap y splinters to create your own mono signal.

what amp are you using? most ok amps will double its rated 4ohm power to 2ohm so your 85 watt will be 170 per side so340 to the sub will be just fine
