Hi
Along with TI elites I have I also have a set of Focals. The woofers got wet and changed shape. I saw a set of the the same model 1 step newer on Ebay and "won" the auction

They arrived today. They were shipped face down flat on a board and wrapped nicely, boxed nicely etc. The issue is they have surrounds that stick out past he frame (like the TI elites) and were pushed in a for a 5 day walk across the country.

When I opened them the spider was sagging and the speaker was obviously not is the normal resting position

In the 15 min or so since opening them they have returned about 75% to normal

The questions are

are they ruined? or put another way, would you buy them from me knowing this story? will they continue to improve and make it back to the 250 value or so that I paid for them?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... ORS%3A1123

I just looked closely at the auction pictures and didn't see the dimples in the surrounds, they are at about that point and the spider still loks a little saggy near the center although I am not an expert at all, probably shouldn't have bought them!

i see dimples in the pics in the surround on that listing you posted.

see them-
the left one has them on the right side and up a little and so does the right hand one... also on right side...

are those the dimples you are referring to??

1st thanks for all the replies, appreciate everyone's opinion.

I looked at the original 1 series earlier set I have. The cone is still very misinformed lol but I did look at the spider, and the surrounds, both in a much higher resting position. I think the dimples are from the spider being low and pulling on the surrounds possibly unevenly.

I have found a local focal dealer on the web that I should be able to get to today. I am bringing by all my speaker to compare.I bet they sound ok but compared to a new one I would think the don't sound as good. hope to find out

I think I want to return them just HATE THE MAJOR HASSLE. the seller represented them as being in great condition and they are not.

I think the spider was sagging before he laid the down for shipping or the dimples would not have been there in the picture.

I will follow up when I make it to the store

thx again

Went by the store, Talked to an employee showed him 1 of each model. He thought they looked ok I asked about the level of the inside of the cone next to the phase plug in particular. He said again it looked ok. I then went to his board when he was talking to another customer and pulled the grill on the same model

there is a lip on the phase plug lip which was perfectly allined with edge of the inner cone. I am having a harder time believing these speakers are worth it. He also in a pleasant want asked a couple of times how they sound ,implying the most important part. He also suggested the different of 1/8" or 1/16"(my guesstimate) difference is was "break in"

I left 1 of my originals there for a free estimate of a recone. he said they would probably like pictures of it at Focal .The new ones may sound ok but I will admit I wish i had not bought them now. I should at least write to the seller
