Phoenix Gold Phorum

I recently picked up my first amp that is more than 1 year old. I got a Ti 800.1. So its about 8 years old. My question is: what are the chances this amp still pushing 800w rms x 1 @ 2ohms? I don't really know what age has to do with it so I'm hoping you guys can help. The guts look pretty good with the exception of 1 or 2 spots and the speaker/power terminals are a little rusted. The terminals shouldn't be a big deal since I can easily replace them or even just clean them up a little. What do you guys think? I'm trying to push an RF T112D4 that requires 600 rms. Will this work out good? Thanks!

The 800 is more than capable of it's rated output. I would be willing to bet that with a good electrical system it will be more likely to do around 1Kw.

As for age, it has pretty much nothing to do with it. The wet caps in these older amps are notorious for leaking and burning amps to the ground. The average life on even a high end electrolytic is about 10-15 years, and has little or nothing to do with the amount of use it has gotten. A lot of members replace their big wet caps as a preventive measure whether they are starting to leak or not.

As long as the amp has not been abused it should be pretty much the same critter it was when it was born.

BTW, show us some pictures of your amp. I'd like to see what a $25 800.1 looks like

The main thing you have to look out for on older amps is the capacitors will go bad over time. You can check them by looking for swelling or slide a piece of paper under them and check it for moisture.

They wont ever put out less power or anything like that because its old

Make sure you have big power cable and a healthy alternator, that amp will use some power as it is a class a/b amp

I'll try to get some pics up. I actually recently just lost my camera and my phone won't do any good. I'll see if I can borrow one one over the weekend and show you guys. The top metal casing is pretty rough but that shouldn't affect the performance so its whatever. I might end up repainting the top. I'll also try and get some gut pics up. Thanks!
