Sub question - Storker VS Ti

Hi Guys:

I am current using Cerwin Vega stroker 12D2 sub in my highlander with a 18"x16"x22" (3 cuft3) ported enclosure. The problem is...still not satisfy with the bass (volume & quality)... stroker is a sweet sub but require a lot of space, my first thinking was to get another oldschool storker but you all know it is so difficult to get a mint one and my wife is complaim about the sub taking too much space in trunk already  cant imagine what will happen IF I add another stroker sub with bigger box...so I was thinking about getting 2x 12" Ti sub with a maybe smaller box, does any one have experience in both sub and able to provide some advice?!

Thanks again...

The Stroker is meant for crazy loud competition installs. I would prefer a Ti for daily.

I can't comment on the Ti elites, as I have never used them, but I have heard they are insane but require a ton of power. As for the strokers, I own 4 new 12D2's and I can say that I love them. There is no other ported sub I have ever heard that comes close to both the SQ and SPL of these monsters.

I will say that 3 ft^3 is ridiculously large for these subs. I crammed three in my VW Jetta's trunk for a while. The total net internal box volume was under 7ft^3. You don't have to use the factory box specs, in fact, if I were you, I would not. The published box specs in the manual is tuned for 45hz which is retardedly high, but it is also the tuning frequency where the sub is going to produce the most output (i.e. for comps). I tuned my enclosure a lot lower, and while you loose out on some SPL, you have a lot better sounding sub fill and you will probably be a lot happier with it, both the size of the box and getting some of your real lows back.

BTW, what are you doing for power for the stroker? I ran about 3Kw's to my trio of subs and it was sickening...

Later,
Jason

Currently I use Ti 2500.1 for the stroker with ported box, I understand 2x Ti require a big box but should be smaller than 2x stroker would need, right?

Current using Ti 2500.1 to 1x old school stroker 12D2...

The thing with tuning here in China is I can not find any one who is capable to help me with tuning...the audio shop who install my system is one the of the best in Shen-Zhen but still......

crap that sub with the power you have should rock...
also what size of power wire are you using and what deck is there setting ont he deck on the sub out?

Okay, here is the thread on my install, Clicky. The CV's came out when I got a 3rd RSDc, I bought the CV's for a special project, and they are now back in their original boxes.

Anyhow, there are specs on the box I built in the link above. It was a total of 6.2ft^3 net internal volume and tuned for 28Hz. I built it with RSDc's in mind, but I modeled it with the strokers in it and it was a good fit for them as well, so I rolled with them while I waited for a third RSDc to show up at a decent price.

I can come up with box specs for you for something similar with one 12D2, but just because I liked it doesn't mean you will. You'd be looking at a box with a net volume of 2.07ft^3 for one sub, so it is a fair amount smaller. Tuning this thing low is what makes the biggest difference SQ wise. I put one one in a box tuned to 45Hz like the manual suggests, and it was not what I was looking for.

As mentioned above, it would be great to see how your amp is set up too. I don't know how much you should really expect out of one single sub-- not if SPL is what you have in mind anyhow. I ran a single stroker 12D2 in my extended cab pickup truck for a while, squeezed the box under the back seat :D It was plenty of sub with one Ti800.1 driving it, but there is a lot less cabin space in both my Jetta and the P/U truck.

For what its worth, when I had the 3 strokers in the Jetta was beyond insane. It was my loudest install yet, and if the enclosure is tuned right those OS strokers actually have amazing SQ. The stroker is the only ported sub I have ever encountered that sounds as "tight" as a driver in a sealed enclosure. I'm no where near as happy with the sound of the RSDc's in the same enclosure. They are pretty ridiculous down low, but they really get sloppy above 45Hz or so. Their specs really are optimized for sealed enclosure, and when I finally find time, that is what is going to happen to the things. I'll gain back a lot of install space-- er... I mean trunk space, too :)

Jason

Hey Jason:
Woo...thanks for the lesson, thats some crazy shit you got there, very impresive!! I do want an extra 12D2 but just concern about the trunk space, my wife is not so happy about me install 1x12D2 with 16" x 18" x 22" box (3cuft) because its taking too much space! Can you pls give me the size of the box you would suggest and I take it to consideration...

Deck= Alpine W502E
