Basscube cable repair

Post by ShockTherapy »

Hi. Just picked up a nice looking white basscube on feebay from a dude for $85 shipped. He says that it comes with the remote but one end of the cable itself is damaged. anybody know how to repair these things. I'd like to do it myself to keep costs down but if someone could do it cheaply I'd opt for that.

It is just a 4 wire modular phone cable, has to be wired strait through, there is a big thread in this section about the remotes I make, the cord comes up in there and I explain how to make it. Just search bass cube remote...

Later,
Jason

The description is right but the picture is not... No idea what to make of that, maybe it is a stock photo, it show the same photo for several different cords....

When I got my cube I didn't have a cable. Went looking through my stuff and found what I needed to make a cable. Really easy. Just a simple straight through 4 wire phone cable. Took me about 3 min total to make... Glad you figured it out man!

A simple way of doing this is to get a standard 4 wire phone cord, cut it in the middle then rewire it backwards then heatshrink the connection, viola!

No, we've been through this over and over, the pg cable *should* be a standard rj11 type phone cord with 6p4c ends. The problem is that not all phone cords are made correctly, and, it makes absolutely no difference to a telephone, but it does to the bass cube. Not all retail cords are wrong either, so you can't make a blanket statement like just cut and flip it, or you may make it backwards. It is also a bitchy bitch to splice that tiny wire. It cost like 20 bucks to buy the crimpers and ends, if you are going to change a cord them buy the tools and do it right. Once again, there is instructions on how to check the cakes in the bc remote thread if thee is still confusion.

Jason

btw, the modular jack used is actually rj14 not rj11. They are the same size, but the rj11 specification is for only two conductors. You are unlikely to find the cords listed properly because everyone seems to think rj11 covers both 2 conductor and 4 conductor.

Okay, here is a picture-- this is from one of PG's tech note pdf's. Anyhow, maybe I am describing it wrong, IDK, but if the ends match up like this, it is the correct cable, if not, it won't work. It confusing as all heck, but the picture should be worth a 1000 explanations!

BTW, the PG document describes this as a "telephone extension cable" maybe that is different from a normal telephone cable, IDK and IDC as I make them myself. I tried sourcing the correct ones first, and it was just hit or miss. I found some that were right at a drug store, I had found them before at radio shack, Kmart had ones that were wrong, blah, blah blah so I make my own now.

 Glad I could stir this up :P Good explanation as well.

It appears that everyone thinks that the cube cable is some "special" cable. It's kinda funny. I went down to my local electronics wholesaler and picked up some black 4 wire flat phone cord for about $.10 a foot, and a bag of ends cost me a total of $10 out the door, and I now have enough phone cord to do LPL's and cube cords till the end of time  Well, almost anyways.

And if you buy the crimpers and have the ends, if the cable doesn't work one way, try another! Only takes a min, and there are only so many combinations you can do
