Drew's OEM Rte 66 Restore- IN FINAL STAGES

Post by mhyde71 »

pics of the final stages of this restore....

proofing stages right now with drew...

some changes may be desired...

i.e. in stead of "Front/Rear Speaker Output" OEM would read "Front High-pass Speaker Output"

things/stuff like that...

AND if you want me to tweak the RCA's and Gain Images... to looking more like OEM that can be done also...

WHich IYAM- i think should be if we're looking at having this an OEM restore. OR leave as is, and then it's a little custom, but still OEM look...? IDK up to you Drew.

Drew lmk wyt- if you want me to have verbatim OEM text- or as is is cool-

if wanting it changed - no sweat- dont even think twice about it...jlmk and i can add it in within seconds.

Your fonts are just slightly off from the originals. Not too easy to notice at a quick glance.

Let's get it as OEM as you can. For this one I would like it to be as close to original as possible.

Thanks.

Look like you just got to adjust the hight on the font to get spot on.

Looks great !

The font that says "America's Dream... U.S.A." needs to be a bit thinner.

Plus, I am still not liking the look of the gain and bass icons. But, that is just me.

The PG logo is a bit different (line thickness), plus the RCA is different, but I am sure everyone noticed that.

Thats crap with the old PG-logos with RCA`s.... Seems like 100 different RCAs, with just small changes... A pain in the ass to duplicate all of the correctly..

Matt, it looks damned good to me-- however, if you are trying to get as perfect as possible, why no try to find a copy place with a flat bed scanner that can fit the whole amp. Have ii scanned, then spend a few hours vectorizing the text and graphics and it will be identical. I know it is a PITA to do the vector work, but, do it once and it will be perfect for each restoration.

Just my thoughts it you want to pull off a 100% perfect restoration.

geese i never even noticed these responses... after dvnt88's first reply...

okay guys i see... i see how you all are- JK

but i hear ya Jason... but the vector work is truly a PIA and i have done/gone this far by free hand and eye-balling it...(and it is vector as i did it in AICS3) and feel that perhaps i will just finish it off and complete by hand...

NEW PICS OF some changes with text-

okay here we go:

pics of revised artwork...

think i need to enlarge some of the icons and reduce some of the text to balance it out to match OEM 100%- but getting closer i think/feel...

ALSO noted - I need to remove the HZ on the highpass xover icon- i see that and have already fixed it at this end

Looking pretty sweet. It is close enough for me. Yes, there are variances here and there but if you don't do a direct side by side like you are with the art on amp, who would notice.

Nice work Matt.

ive also made some slight changes since the last picture posting... i spread out the power B+/B-/remote text to match a lil closer and enlarged some of the icons to match better too.

think we're about ready to roll with this here now.

OKAY GUYS [Drew]

Final proofing here - i think and or hopefully!

have a look- think were about as close as i can get with out doing any more.

if that made sense...? :P

if perhaps you guys notice... take example the gain icons... i did the outer ring darker than the inner ring just like OEM... and went to bold on the text- which matched a lil better... brought the whole top part down to the line closer... etc etc etc etc

Getting much much closer Matt...

The black line is about twice as thick as it needs to be though...

Your gain labels are backwards, are they not? they read .2-2 but the original reads 2-.2

Then your bass boost, says the Gain range instead of 0-+12

Other than the line thickness in acouple spots, mainly like the one Eric was saying, I think it looks really good.

It looks great, really. I do agree with Eric, the black line is pretty thick. The only other thing I noticed that stands out are the decimals on the gain indicators. They are on opposite sides from original to restore. Scottn29 spelled it out better than I could and beat me to it as I'm typing.

That's all. Other than that go for it!

Nice work Matt  , workin' on gettin' my Route66 out to ya as I'm waiting for the 'ol W2 to see what tax season is lookin' like this year  , should be pretty good, but don't wanna get amped until I see the numbers. Will have the case out to ya in the next week or so as I still have to tear it down.

what i am confused about is why would it be or read 2 then .2

Shouldnt it really be .2 to 2 on the gain?? b/c you would have .2 before you have a whole 2 volts... no? or is that not indicative of volts???

know what i mean? perhaps another typo on pg's end???

I will swap'em out... but just in my mind i thought you would see .2v before 2v.
and i will reduce the line a lil.

AND fix the bass boost also

then we should be good to go!

My guess is that the 2 to .2 is when you're feeding the amp a higher voltage signal (2 volts) the gains will be all of the way down. If you're only feeding it 0.2 volts, then you'll have to turn your gains up to get the full power out of the amplifier.

Looks great BTW!

I don't get it either. Whether it is right or an error, let's just go with how they had it. Character, even in error is part of what made these amps so cool to me.

I know that the gains on most modern amps go high to low, for example my DLS A series goes 7v-.2v Maybe the gain pots were different in the older PG's, maybe them make them both ways.
