I think I am going to sell my JL 300/4 and 500/1 and pick up pillows zx500. what were the real numbers on these? I really was looking for a pair of Ref soundstreams but he already capped the zx

30V output prior to clipping, unloaded.

Now is that by 2 chs or 1?
I would guess to say 2 as that's only 225w per/ch @ 4 ohms. Or am I forgetting how to calculate the formula?

Good info. I need to see how much the JL amps put out. I have a number in my head but can't recall if it was the 4 or the mono.

JL lists their output voltage in their manuals. The JL amps will do EXACTLY what they are rated for.
Like the old PPI amps, JL's goal is to produce rated power at ANY (within reason) input voltage. On the other hand, PG likes to produce more power with more input voltage (unregulated).

You should do that
It is beefy! Granted I recommend finding a ZX450 to go with it in place of your 300/4. Right now the ZX500 is powering a Brahma at 4 Ohm bridged and it does a fine job. I have not pushed it very hard, but at the same time think it has plenty of balls to do some door rattling if need be.
... I sold out to the hype and will be putting a Sundown SAE-1200v2 in its place.

i remember that you said the 0.3 you tested was at 30v before clip, so i wonder if the zx500 can hang with the 0.3 at 4ohm stereo if so it would be like the little amp that could.

Well, the limitations are probably more power supply related. The ZX500 has 8 power supply MOSFETs, which is the exact same number as the ZPA0.3 So, both amps are really the same power (I think they use similar MOSFETs, otherwise better ones could give an amp an advantage)
The only advantage I see is the ZPA has a dual mode power supply so it can run low impedance. At 1 ohm mono the ZX will fry, whereas the ZPA can take it.
The ZPA has a lot more output transistors, which might help SQ. The jury is still out on that one...

JL 300/4 bridged is 34.6 volts @ 4ohms so that would be close. the JL should do that a little easier due to power supply or am I thinking of it wrong?
this is tough. I will have to find a zx450 again..I have owned 2 or 3 of them already.
pillow I am going to email you again.

the only experiance ive had with a zx500 was when a friend of mine went from an xs2500 to a zx500 he had some fosgate 12,s on it just cant remember which one's i think he was at 142 db with the 2500 and about 145 on the 500. the added db wasnt the only thing that changed the bass sort of sorrounded you more instead of being able to pinpont where the bass was coming from. that being said that 2500 wasnt exactly weak just maybe not as clear as the 500.

I know this is a PG forum but I have really wanted some old SS ref amps again cause the wiring is all on the side (like the JL) .......
arrg. why do I look on these forums.

i liked and ran my jl slash for about 2-3 year here (wifes car) 10w7 or the 12w6v2 boston pro 6.5 mk3 golf off a 300/4 and a 500/1 they sounded great. not the best amp i have used but did what it was told to never got hot... i have never had good luck with soundstream (never bought new) but everyone i went near had a problem
shit i even went to buy a new HR 4 channel nib off flebay and the seller ran out before my friend could buy it... just my luck
