Cross over point

Post by Bchester6 »

My Zx475ti has no crossover defeat (that i know of) so setting them to 80hz is only going to be an approximation by manual knob positioning. My headunit has a crossover function which would enable me to set it at precisely that so what do I set the crossover knob on the amp to.? Is it ok to have the dreaded "double crossover"?

I guess without a schematic, we really don't know if using bypass on the crossover selector actually bypasses the internal crossover. I would like to know as well. One way to tune your on-board crossover is to play pink noise and get a free app for your computer to RTA your set-up. I've tried one on my laptop and android phone with almost acceptable results...

I've never thought that a specific frequency is that important, as long as you can get close. When it comes to the "double crossover" I've heard issues in the past where "cascading" the crossover without making them the same will cause odd issues. This might be a good thing or bad. As long as you get the frequency range in the amp I would probably use it.

If you're wanting to High Pass something, set the amp to it's lowest (in this amps case 40Hz) then use the xover on the HU. The Xover on the HU will filter out what you don't want and the 40Hz on the amp would be rendered useless. For Low pass, set it to its highest setting (on the amp) and set the Xover on the HU.

Crossover defeat is the BY selection on the dial, rather than LP or HP.
