Hello friends, I’m new to the forum and I’m looking for some help with acquiring several subwoofers, which I intend to use in an install. I have been looking to purchase two Phoenix Gold Cyclone units for some time but my searches have returned no results. Please contact me if you are willing to sell or if you have any information or leads. PS I understand they are discontinued but many people did use them as bass units in home entertainment systems and so that might be a possible source.
Kind regards Aidan.
Try posting a "WTB" (want to buy) ad in the buy/sell section. Also, after 10 posts you can see the "Auctions of Interest" section, where these occasionally come up. Of course they are rare and desirable so there is almost always a battle for them!
To be honest they are more of a novelty item to people as they are over six years on now. There are plenty other new speakers in the same class that can move more air.

Yeah, not so much here buddy. There are people on this board who have gone through hell to bring their cyclones back to life, and who seek them religiously for their collections and installs. Members of this forum also own the original prototype 'clone and it's big brother which never saw production.
Stick around and you may get a chance at one, but realize that for the most part we really know our stuff when it come to PG anything, and we probably have a better idea of what is collectible and what isn't. Shit, I have seen people fighting over buying a dealer banner, or display piece, so yeah, cyclone doesn't qualify as a novelty to we nut jobs

I’m interested to know more with regards to the Cyclones production. I have read extensively as much as I can. A audio technician from a company near where I live called K&M acoustics, which is quite renowned here in the UK, told me that they originally had a prototype for exhibition purposes back when they were first released. They told me that it was quite impressive but when they ordered some off the production line they changed the design materials. Is this true? were the prototypes made from a different material, possible metal? And can I ask what you referred to when you said “its big brother”, are you implying that there was a 15 or 18 inch prototype on the design table? Any further information or elaboration on this topic would be most appreciated. Kind regards Aidan.

Two freshly serviced Cyclones in their matching #´s OEM boxes with all manuals. Sorry not for sale even tough i cleared most of my collection those awesome units will stay with me and will start doing their job in my living room by mid of summer
I am by no means an expert on the cyclones, and I am sure someone else will chime in with more information, but the "big brother" IIRC was called the typhoon, I don't know the details of it, but I think that PG actually had ad copy made for it, along with brochures and dealer information when it fell through. I think there was only the one ever made, and it either did not see completion or it did not work. I don't remember much, but it seems it was still the same motor, but I think it was a pair of motors with one driver. I honestly don't remember, but there may be some info about it either in the "scanned information" thread that I think is sticky in this section, or possibly in the PG manuals and information sticky in the how to section. I'll poke around and see if I can find the link for you.
As for the proto's, from what I have seen, the ones floating around are the same materials of construction as the production models. From what I understand, the driver was not designed in house for PG, but by some engineer who had been working on the design for the pro audio circuit. I heard somewhere a long the line that there were other similar pro audio drivers that were similar to the cyclone that were designed by this guy. I can't even remember his name, so I am not going to be much help, but there are some folks here who will know all the details and will help if they see this thread.
Good luck in your search!

Here is a link to the scanned literature thread, it is not in this section anymore, it is stickied in the how to section. http://phoenixphorum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6162 As mentioned above, it has quite a bit of info scanned about the cyclone, I am still working on finding the stuff I saw about the typhoon. Will let you know.

what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.
I've read some info from/about Tom Danley. At one time, he was and still may be a member of DIYAudio.com. He explains a few things about his prototype and the actual production model. He has a site and may entertain your interest in sound reproduction.

I believe Shinju has a couple of Cyclones for sale, but local only if you hadn't seen it already on this forum...
