I just hooked up my Cowon J3 32gig mp3 player up to my Pioneer p9 and woowza!. The music just came alive. There are a couple caveats about the player, but well worth it in my opinion. I may have to post up a vid soon.

the p9 is a great piece, but mp3 is shit, no matter how you look at it- format is convenient and that about it- audio wise slightly better than transistor radio, so it is a shock to me that something 'came alive' from a mp3 source- but who knows

The P3 does support OGG and FLAC, so it's possible it wasn't a low bitrate MP3 that made things come alive.

While I'm not a seasoned audiophile with ears of gold, I can tell the difference between a shitty .mp3 and an .flac file. Be that as it may, the cowon still gives songs a certain depth that I have never experienced before.

ive hooked a multimedia player that plays mp3's up to an eclipse unit and the sound wasn't horrible as some people say. sure it's not as good as a digitally mastered cd but it wasnt bad sounding either, yea some mp3's recorded over and over again sound like crap but not all of them do. :)

The only time I have a use for mp3 for me is on my phone when I am walking the dog, working in the basement or doing odd jobs. In the car I still prefer cd but 2nd choice is satalite radio which is certainly debatable for sq as well. With headphones I can tell but considering I was started liking music when dolby B was an improvement, I do not complain....
