sure doesnt look like it! is it a dvc? all i can think is thats bits of 1 vc and the other still is working fine.

or its just stray wire that fell down there and is attracted to the magnet

It is a dvc...I'll bet yer right about it being loose conductor (prolly from the install) that the magnet collected. Lol, now I can get some sleep!!

most definately voicecoil, pretty soon it will have lost enough coil off the former that it will impede movement of the sub, have seen it on one customers sub.

It looks like one continuous wire, so I would probably assume VC as well. Prognosis is not looking good!

I have personally never seen an exploded voice coil (speaker), but how would it unwind and come out if it is between the magnet/pole and spider? I have seen a sub about 12 or so inches deep with dual spiders and a partially exposed voice coil, but am VERY interested to see how extensive the damage is to this speaker. If the magnet or pole piece had fallen apart, then that would be a no-brainer. I believe the OP said it works fine...

Can we have some pics of the damage please? Thanks...

the one I pulled apart to investigate it just appeared the voice coil slipped off the bottom of the former, it only takes a small bit to catch and as the speaker is run it will just continue to pull more and more coil off the former until it leaves no gap between the motor and the voice coil

Yeah when I pulled it out of her car a while back, it was working fine (other sub wasn't working though). No other visible damage. I'll get it from her later and you guys tell me what pics of other parts of the sub you wanna see.

Take note, the view you are looking at would be the inside of the former but vc's are wound on the outsides of the former. If it was the/a vc then you would definitely have/hear a scratching noise.

might be able to get it out with some compressed air and vacuum, or a magnet but not sure if I would try or not.

If its the voicecoil, its fucked anyways. If not, it could damage the sub. I think removing it would be pertinent, as long as you could do so without damaging the woofer otherwise (unless it's already fucked, then who cares?)

yea its a damned if you, damned if you don't as it will end up in a place it shouldn't be sooner then later. Try one of those magnetic screw catcher tools and see how much you can get out before moving to the vacuum.

LOL, well the cone didnt do that on it's own..I did that while making my way through the dustcap and spider to check out the extent of the damage to the VC. That speaker actually sounded pretty good for me for a couple of years before I gave it to my sister. I know she ran them to clipping most of the time and wouldn't listen to reason, so I'm not surprised that the VC gave out.
