Possible phasing issue with subs.

When moving the balance from far left/right to center the sub output seems to weaken slightly or become "thinner". It's strange, but it seems that each individual sub is hitting slightly harder on it's own than the two together. At the very best, the two subs together hit NO harder that each separately. This sounds like a phasing issue to me. Visually, the subs appear to move in unison. Also, her system was professionally installed over a year ago. I have no idea if this has been the case the whole time or what. I wanted to see what you guys' thoughts were before I go switching polarities and whatnot. She's running 2 RSD12's on an RSD1200.1 @ 2ohms. Thnx dudes.

if the subs are running off a mono amp how can balance effect anything?

how much of a difference is it? Have you tried it from different seating positions or just from one? It would be cancellations happening where you are sitting and me be different in other areas.

oh..I was under the impression that if one of the subs had the polarity wired differently than the other, that they could still play out of phase Ya see!! lol this why I ask people stuff.

I only listened from the passenger seat. I wasn't aware that cancellations would be perceived differently from different positions. I thought resonance(?) was the only thing affected by that.

Are cencellations more common in two sub set ups as opposed to one sub?

they can and still may be out of phase in said system, but if they are on a mono amp I fail to see how turning balance left to right makes a difference?

ooooh shit...I see what yer saying...the subs wouldn't be playing individually when the balance is set one way or the other, they would still be playing together. I haven't a clue why, but it seem slightly louder when the balance is completely left or right I would think cancellations at this point, but those shouldn't change when moving the balance either since they play in unison the whole time...

Check the midbass speakers polarity. They affect bass output too.
