Ti distro block resto, tried something different!
Ti distro block resto, tried something different!
had a go at wrapping my rusty Ti blocks with some 3M aluminum film stuff, turned out pretty sweet and was really easy to work with! cost me £15 inc shipping for a 300x500mm sheet and I have left over from 4 blocks
this was the 1st one I did, turned out OK but as I got the knack of it I made the others a little tidier underneath..

Re: Ti distro block resto, tried something different!
the Ti finish is not hard to fix perminatly. Just sand down the rust and hit it with a flat clear and you will not be able to tell where it was and keep it from rusting further.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.
Re: Ti distro block resto, tried something different!
never been that simple when I've done it usually rusts under the paint finish so have to strip it all down..ttocs wrote:the Ti finish is not hard to fix perminatly. Just sand down the rust and hit it with a flat clear and you will not be able to tell where it was and keep it from rusting further.

Re: Ti distro block resto, tried something different!
I am doing it to all my Ti pieces I am using in the stang(DD10, Ti Cross-over, Bass-cube, R-link, and the dist blocks). I am half way through the bass cube and took some pics to show how but I am tied up in some other projects. As long as you sand all the rust off, clean it really well before clearing and do not handle it before putting on a complete coat it has worked great for me. I am putting a glossy clear on it though as it looks alot better with it.

Looking good Mark!
And with the other vinyl I showed you earlier, it would be able to make these so they match Outlaw and Bandit amps

Looking good Marko. Do you by chance have any TiAL gear that we could compare it to side by side?
Re: Ti distro block resto, tried something different!
no not really, i have my Ti headunit but that's not really gonna tell us anything. it's very ally like if that helps! for what it costs it was a no brainer to give it a shot and I'm very happy with the results!dedlyjedly wrote:Looking good Marko. Re: Ti distro block resto, tried something different!
is that vinyl printable? can you print on top of it?

Re: Ti distro block resto, tried something different!
spoke to Haakon about that and apparently not i already thought about it though and it wouldn't hurt to try a sample through a printer!ttocs wrote:is that vinyl printable? can you print on top of it?
I wonder if a regular printer cartridge could be adapted with a different kind of ink to take to this material, if it could we'd be onto a winner!

Re: Ti distro block resto, tried something different!
if the vinyl isn't made to have ink stick to it, it will be hard but I am willing to bet you could find a printable material that was similar. The advantage with that is you could print the top of the DD10 or the base-cube(small items) and have a fairly good match.

Re: Ti distro block resto, tried something different!
All vinyls made for printing by a aqueous pigment ink (what is in a regular printer) have to be coated especially for that purpose, or else the ink won't dry, just smear. Solvent-based ink will print on this, but a solvent/eco-solvent printer with heaters to evaporate the solvent/dry the ink will most likely cost more than your car
I have a $3000 Epson 7890 large format (A1) printer here, pigmentbased ink, the Epson I really want (GS6000, solventprinter) you can add a zero to that price...
But when I eventually dig deep and get myself a solventbased printer, or win the lottery and get myself one of these, that can print all colours including white and metallics, AND print textures directly to a media, then some pretty custom amps and components will be made I think

Re: Ti distro block resto, tried something different!
Oh man that thing is nuts
Re: Ti distro block resto, tried something different!
Sure is! This also applies to the price tag: Roland LEC-540: $67,995 US
But the possibilities are almost endless:
But now we really are drifting away from the easiest solution to print on the vinyl this thread is about
