Ive never really been clear on which MBQs exactly were good ones. Supposedly these are exactly the same as the qm160 comps in a coax form.

I have mixed reaction to quarts. They got their name in competition for sure but that is because at a normal listening level they sound just awsome generally speaking. The problem I had with them is anytime I put them in a customers car(never sold them so they would bring them in), if it was someone that liked it loud then they would come back complaining. At high volume(which we all do from time to time) they always seemed a bit hollow and lacking in mid-bass no matter what we did. I remember we did one big system with a zx950 and an eq215 and no matter how we tuned them we could not get them to where he as happy and I think he swapped them out for some ID speakers eventually and then he was happy.

Yeh, when these came out I was either running eclipse ( they had some really nice shit back then )or crystal.

Edit, not really by choice. The only 2 places you could get MB Quart or Oz back then were the swap meet and a dealer that I had an issue with.

Nutxo,

Good afternoon. That's a nice set of 6 1/2" Quarts. I have the exact same series, but I have the 5 1/4" version. I bought them brand new in 1999, installed them in the front doors of my 1999 Si, and they still sound great.

I did run into two issues, but I was able to rectify both. First, the in-line crossovers died after about five years. That was an easy fix because I called MB Quart and purchased a pair of the much nicer, more comprehensive crossovers (the models with the clear case, tweeter attentuation settings, and a tweeter protection portion). And second, I had the surrounds replaced two years ago.

I power them as a set with the front channels of my M44.

In conclusion, I would recommend replacing the in-line crossovers when you use them. Mine sounded better after the replacement.

Have a good one,

Hmm. The surrounds o these are great and the xovers work as well. I dunno. I need something that can handle 300 watts though.

keep the signal clean and undistorted, out of clipping and it will not be a problem.

Nutxo,

I'm sorry for the confusion. I have used my 5 1/4"s since day I bought them. That's over 12 years of heat, humidity, and Metallica's Shortest Straw abuse in the doors of my Civic. Under those conditions, the surrounds just wore out and the in-line crossovers finally had enough. So, what I fixed and replaced is simply maintenance-related. I meant for my post to be an endorsement because those speakers have been through a lot, and yet they still sound good.

The nice thing about them to me is that they didn't need a lot of power to sound good and play loud. On the other hand, if you're looking for something that can handle 300 watts, they may not be for you.

Yea, those passives wont handle 300 watts for very long. Bi-amp/go active with them.
