Hey everybody,

When I was really into car audio back in the mid 90s, I seem to remember serious SPL competitors using two separate amps to power one dual voice coil sub; or one amp per voice coil.

I haven't been keeping up with car audio for the ten years or so, but is this (still) relatively common? Are there drawbacks to this type of setup? Can it be used in a low-power system?

no real need to do it now. you just have to make sure you gain match the amps.

and make sure you feed them a mono signal.
