Well I just got another ride, and now its time to. get get some sounds. I am looking at 2 15 dcons. This will actually be a conservative system for me anyways.I'm gunna push their limits as I'm thinking I will run a 1200 watt amp between the pair in a large box tuned low. Should be loud in an suv anyways... the price seems 2 good on these to pass up. As long as I dont push them too hard on full power, They look like they will hold up okay.
As for my mid and highs, I think I will run all coax Speakers for now. I'm choosing not to cut into anything right now, at least until the summer.. I'm looking at running 4 imagedynamics ctx65s all in
stock locations. Don't worry, I won't be using the rears unless I'm cranking..

It should be a fun system. Will only have 1200 on tap, but they are efficient subs, so it should do well. thoughts

That's over double their rated wattage. You'd be better off with a single Xcon I think. $100 more, but should be a lot better overall. Hell, they even come in 18's

I think two DCON 15's would be O.K. as long as you aren't feeding them too much power or a clipped signal. I have my DCON 12S4 bridged to my XS2500 which is putting out nearly twice the recommended wattage. I don't crank it up all that often, but when I do it seems to handle the power quite well. It is also in an Explorer.

Actually the new Icons are rated for 1250w, and exactly the same price as two Dcons. I think you'd be happier with a single Icon ported on that power personally.

MB quart tweets are on the harsh side, that's why I chose the imagdynamics. As for the 15s, I think they will do fine off that power. They seem overbuilt, and they wouldn't be full tilt all the time.

I still have the mb court but that sub likes sealed boxes. The manual says nothing about ported nor do I know anyone that has ran them ported.. I need the output it's time to go ported:)

Hey now, that ratting is not official.

I just got it off the website. Either way, what would YOU recommend?
Two Dcons = 600w rms
One Icon = 1000w rms
The one Icon is much closer to handling the available power. Not that I think the Dcons will fail, but because the Icon is a better all round sub anyways, I think it's a win win.

If this is a daily setup I would go for the 2 dcons over 1 icon. Motor force and cone area are in your favor.

Yep, more cone area. 2 15 dcons should easily beat out 1 icon. Large ported box tuned low with tons of port. Im thinking about doing an 8inch round port. Im gunna make sure these suckers make some noise.

For $20 more per driver, the Obsidian 15's would be a much better choice than the Dcons's especially if you are looking to get the most bang for your buck. They have a 2.5" coil vs the 2" coil on the dcons so they will dissipate heat better and handle more power. Another option is the Sundown SA15 which is in the ballpark price-wise.

Well I originally wanted to go with the sundown sa 15s when I had my crownvic, but I was thinking of getting something less beastly, so that it doesnt tear up my new ride. Now with the peer pressure of getting something better, I may just pick up the sa next 15s next week. However they will only be ran off 1200 watts, and I know each sa can handle that. That will just leave me head room for the future.

It just depends on what you're looking for. The Dcons probably have better sq and in a ported enclosure with good clean power, they will get loud. If you want a louder setup the SA's are the way to go and like you said you can put more power on them later.
I'm running 2 AA Avalanche 12's in a sedan and only feeding them 300w each and it is very loud.

Yea I have no doubts the dcons have better sq. I just saw the sa's are on sale for 190 shipped each 15. I hope that sale is still going on next week. If so at this sale price its a no brainer.

I like win win's. But seriously, at the moment I think we will keep the rms ratting the same despite the solid jump up in thermal and mechanical limit improvements.

Different drivers meant for different purposes, the challenge is to figure out which is better for the user.

Just ordered an sa 15, and my jbl highs I ended up going with due to efficiency. Turns out I'm going with 2 15 sundown sa's, and an audioque 2200.1 to power the pair. So much for going conservative like I planned..

I will post up some pictures later. I just installed the jbl coaxes, and I'm pretty impressed with this set. They are the gto 638s (yes i know 5x7s

)They are the loudest door speakers by far I've ever had . They are only being powered by my deck, as I don't have all my supplies yet, but they are impressive. The midbass is insane, I truely didn't expect this much out of some cheap coaxes. My intentions were to get loud, so the added midbass is only a plus. If anyone thought the rsds had a ton of midbass, these clearly out perform them. The tweeter is on the bright side, but so was the rsds. Overall I'm happy with this set and I can't wait to get the other pair. 2 pairs of the speakers will have no problems keeping up with my bass.
