Phoenix Gold ZX475Ti - Missing capacitors?

Post by StillKeen »

Hi,

I purchased another ZX amp on ebay, taking me to three zx amps (will probably only use one or two, but figured I should get them whilst I can). The others are fine, but this one looks to have had the capacitors removed .... ? The manual shows that the system should be installed with a 1.2 farad capacitory, but the ones missing from inside are not the power supply ones (I think).

Can someone please confirm if the capactors should be in the spaces shown on the board, or if they reused an old board and changed the amp design to not need them?

There is no corrosion (I've not pulled the board to check the bottom), so can't work out whats going on. The seller said the amp worked ... but i fail to see how.

Thanks,

-Chris

1.2 farad is a biiiiiig cap and would not fit there but it would seem that it should have some caps on there somewhere. I am sure one of the techy's will respond shortly, interesting...

I think those missing caps are 2,200uF, 50V.

As for size, you will have to measure and determine what will physically fit in there.

You got Scammed brah!

File a Paypal and Ebay Safeharbor claim ASAP, do not pass go do not go directly to jail! Take this A-hole to the cleaners and get your money back.

There is no reason why those caps should not be there looks to me like someone was trying to change them and had no idea what they were doing, God only knows who raped that amp of its life precious!

I think the amp would work without the rail caps, it just won't have any reserve for more demanding power output.

If I got that amp for $50-75, I think it would still be worth it if all 4 channels work and nothing is burnt.

Maybe the board is from an LE amp, wasn't there one with a beefed up rail capacitor bank?
