Memphis Audio 16-ST150

Post by Eric D »

I know that being the PG forum, this is probably a shot in the dark, but does anyone have any Memphis amps, or know anyone who does? I have a 16-ST150 I am trying to repair, and the main PWM controller board has two transistors which were damaged well beyond recognition. I have shown a photo below...

I am trying to determine what Q708 and Q709 (in the top right hand corner) were. Any help would be appreciated...

Damn Shawn, I really appreciate it!

I figured I had no chance of anyone here having one of these.

It is good to know some people have these amps.

They also have great service. Shawn posted this photo first, but Memphis sent me an email that same day with part info, and a small glimpse of their schematic for that area. Not too many companies have that level of support, especially on a 10+ year old product.

I should also make note these amps (at least this stereo one) are pretty well built. It has all kinds of PG like features for SQ, such as an input nulling torroid, and output inductors.

I love these amplifiers I had every model of the ST series I still have one left, I got a 16-MC2004 4 channel that has 3 blown PS fets if you want to tinker and fix it /wink wink.

I ran the 16-ST3004 and 16-ST1000d in my set up for a couple of years.

I have noticed that most Memphis amps die badly when they do die. I think it is from such a compact design. I have ran across two of them I could not repair affordability due to board damage.

I see what your saying Eric, compact design= too much heat over all the components in the amp, thus causeing too much heat in a confined space.

I had one a while back, the chome sinked one can't remember what it was. It ran well for a while but eventually the torroid went out on it and could not find a replacement and they didn't stock/make them anymore.

I am not saying that for sure just saying my experience. Now take into account that this happened in phoenix az and the heat was a little higher then most....
