Post by streaker »

I have this amp hooked up to a 10 inch sub works good with a cd or ipod but on radio I get static I’m using the SPEAKER LEVEL INPUT now I’ve traced it to that.... there is 5 wires on that speaker l, r + and _ and then there’s a ground so five wires in total I grounded it to same spot as my amp still static I unhook it static I turn amp off and radio comes in fine this is driving me nuts and when i move that one ground wire around in the air it makes static.. any help would be awesome thanks

Sounds like the amp's switch mode output stage is not properly filtered. This can cause havoc on radio reception and is not all that uncommon with class d amplifiers. I'm pretty sure this is your problem since you state that the amp sounds fine when using cd or iPod.

If you have enough slack in your cabling, try to move the amp around and away from the vehicles antenna as much as possible (carefully of course), and see if the static goes away or is at least reduced.

Unfortunately there isn't any "easy" way to shield the amp

You may, or may not have issues. It's hard to say, but you can try it easy enough and see. I'm sure that that amp has thermal protection... you may want to check into it though
