ZX >--< ZXv2

Post by PhuckinGood »

Just a quick question if anyone can help, that knows the difference between the first and v2 models of the white ZX amps?

I have a ZX350v2 and have this niggle in the back of my mind somewhere telling me I have heard something about overheating problems that were ironed out on the v2 models and it was worth staying away from the first models, this could be complete nonsense. I ask as have been offered a ZX500 locally but its not the v2 version.

Any knowledge gratefully received to help me make the purchase decision

I know the # of fan blades was one visable difference if that is what you meant.

Thank you for the reply

I am not sure, guess I am just baffles as to what to do, buy the ZX500v1 I have been offered or is it wise to hold out for ZX500v2 ?!?!?

I have a ZX350v2 and been very reliable, just going to send that off for a good seeing to! found a guy trading as the amp doctor who used to work for Genesis who will swop out the caps, adjust the bias, even suggest any upgrades etc, so thought great I will go for all ZX amps just not sure on the whole v1 / v2 position.

Gordon may be getting my ZX amps soon too 8)

I held out and held out for a ZX350 v2 to match my trio of V2 amps (350, 450, 500), but ended up settling for a v1 as I couldn't find one. I've no idea if there is any real difference between the two versions, but I'm a bit pedantic about things matching and wanted them all to have the little v2 symbol

I guess that when they go down to get tweaked Gordon will have 350 of each version side by side so may be able to tell us.

Unless of course you want to trade your amp for mine, then I'll have a matching set of v2's, and you'll have a matching pair of V1's

My ZX350v2 is mint with original box so now way I will let her go, swop you ZX600ti for something though if your interested? or have a pair of new in box titanium 12'' subs would swop? Sounds like a nice system you have there mate :D

Just need to find a time to strip her out and send to the amp doctor soon, would be interesting to send together for comparison, would have to stealthily mark mine though

Yes, mine is too, as are my 450 & 500, which is why I'm having such a hard time finding another 350 to match! My v1 isn't that bad, probably an 8/10, but not solid 10's like my v2's

And I've just swapped my ZX600ti so not looking for another, but thanks anyway :)

i have a zx350 V1, zx 450 V2 and zx 500 V2. all black colors....

i played loud with it for almost 10 years. the first one to shut down in hot summer, was the zx 450 V2.

With my zx350 V1 i never had problems. Only my zx 500 V2 had issues one day, it seems to be in the crossoverprint.

After placing a complete new crossboard in it, here at the form PG europe repair center, problems were solved.

My personal opinion is, the most important problem next to the caps of course, is the quad pot of the crossover.

And yes, in the V1 models it will be the bad green model, in the V2(most of them) it is already the better black model.

when my zx500 was in, i let in my 350 the green pot replace by a black model. the fan in the V2 will move more air and cool

better, but they make way more noise. if it's a good price and the amp looks mint, why not. In the mean while you still can look

for a V2 model if you have more trust in it.

@paintguy......

beautiful looking amps, really...... but replace those ps caps please before those beauties catch fire......

I sent my ZX500 in many years ago just to have PG go through it. It was a v1 but came back with a v2 case. They put a note in there explaining it, but that was a long time ago. Is it just a different fan that makes it v2?

thanks for all the input, seems we have got to the bottom of two differences.

Nice pictures too, this thread is descending into amp porn
