PG newbie needs some advice ZX450 and Xmax12
Hi everyone
So 12v sound systems have been a hobby of mine for a few years. Not obsessive just buying and selling stuff on NZ's version of Ebay and playing really. I have a lounge that is basically a concrete igloo and it affords some, shall we say, "interesting" acoustic properties. I've had a couple of 220a/h deep cycle batteries running through a 2F cap to keep it all interesting. Recently got a 50amp inverter which is less work that the batteries.
I love old school stuff which is why i'm here. I recently purchased a ZX450 and an XMax12 as part of a package deal. Presume they are quite rare here in NZ i've not seen anything else like it in the 6 years i've been mucking around with this stuff. I had no idea about phoenix gold or that it had such a following. After hooking it up and hearing it power two massive 2ohm 6x9's and a 800wrms 15" i'm sold!!! So i have some questions. The ZX450 is quite corroded on top and some of the paint is peeling but i have looked inside and it all looks very clean. Can you get just the cover somewhere? The caps have silicon between them was this standard from the factory or have these been replaced r.e some other posts? if this was factory i presume they need replacing can somebody give me the right cap to get and where? how do i check for leakage without taking the whole board off? the perspex/plastic windows have come off is there a specific glue that should be used to reattach these? any other general maintainance apart from the caps?
The XMax12's rubber has completely perished. Is there somewhere i can get a new one or are there generic one's that a reputable repair outlet would supply?
Cheers in advance...am a convert!!!

You're gonna give me nightmares tonight. I can just imagine one of my drunk buddies pegging the channel gain on that mixer all "ooooh look at all the red lights now PARTY TIME....when did you get a fog machine? What's that burning smell?" lol
Someone on here told me this actually, to check for leaky caps slip a scrap of paper under them and see if it comes back out with any residue.

doesn't matter if they are visibly leaking or not. They have to be replaced or it will eventually catch on fire.ajaye wrote:You're gonna give me nightmares tonight. Was hoping that someone could tell me from the picture whether they are the original caps
