Anyone get a chance to compare the original Ti12d Elite against the new Elite.12d? Im curious to know if the new Elite.12d lives up to or surpasses the original. I have a BNIB pair of the original Ti12d Elite's I was going to use and now thinking of possibly going to the new Elite.12d for my install.

Both are excellent subs.

The original Ti12d Elite has a little more excursion and is field serviceable, those are its two main advantages. Its disadvantage is that they can sometimes be underwhelming in terms of output. The actual cone area is much smaller than most normal 12 inch drivers, its almost closer to a 10, so this tends to negate the extra excursion. From time to time, we did have some complaints in the past about the general lack of output on the original Elites, especially in sealed boxes. Perhaps the woofer is so visually impressive that its hard for the actual performance to meet expectations.

The new Elite.12d driver handles more power, is a more 'balanced' woofer that is generally louder across a wider range of frequencies. It will handle just about anything you throw at it, vented or sealed is fine. But the vented output is impressive.

Here is some testing by a dealer with a single Elite.12d in a vented box.

Hey Morgan, I emailed you awhile back about the SPL cone for the Elite and it's specifications. Did you ever find anything on it?

It should have three 4 ohm coils with a tighter suspension. More optimized for a vented box.

Do you happen to know the size box it likes? As well as what it should be tuned to?

So what about in the lowest of octaves. Which would come out on top? Would the newer style still have more output in the 15~30hz range?

Volume (cu.ft.) -2.25
Vent Opening (in.) - 2.5 x 12
Vent Length (in.) - 31.5
Tuning Freq - 33Hz

It can also work well in a 1.75 or 2.0 cu ft box vented, but if you have the room I prefer the 2.25.

That's almost impossible to answer.

Even with sealed boxes we often implement subsonic filters (From 20 to 35Hz) during testing.

Not to mention from 15Hz to 25Hz there is not much information down there, if there is, amplifiers will struggle or may not be able to reproduce it.

This is for theater use. Not really music. Sound tracks have a lot of subsonic information. The amp running sub duties is an Arc 4000SE and will play down to 15hz.
