Hi all, im new to this DIY speaker box design but a came accross a pair of 12" phoenix gold QX12dvc Subwoofers and had the desire to build decent size boxes for these speakers. Luckily the booklet was with them and gave me enclosure recommendations for a ported speaker, but i dont know what the numbers mean and all the calculators i have tried want different numbers so i am lost.

The booklet says i need: (Vb) 2.70 (Fb) 32hz (Vd) 4"ABS (Vl) 7 1/4 for the enclosure design??? I am going for quality of music, not volume.

Can someone tell me what they mean so i can use the calculator?

I just want a rectangle box for an upright speaker and ill be putting in two tweeters. I will be making two boxes, one woofer for each.

I appreciate any explanation of the numbers.

Cheers

Vb is volume in cubic feet. Vd is port id (4" PVC) vi is length of port and fb is the port tuning. Assuming that vb has displacement figured in you just need a 2.7 cuft box with a 4" port 7.25" long.

That simple... Thanks very much for your response, that cleared things up. Time to build a box then. Cheers

Don't forget to put in midrange speakers as well! A sub speaker like QX will sound bad if you play midrange through it.
