Just wanna say hi here. I'm a big Phoenix gold fan since I was younger but can't afford it back in the days. Since now I been getting good deals on some old school amp and sub on craigslist and eBay. I bought two r3 12" dual voice coil and two zx500. How would you guys connect theses to get the most power outta them? Thanks

Are they dual 2 or dual 4 ohm coils. Also since those zx are new to you have the caps been changed in them?

one sub per zx500....they give 600w rms brigded at 4 ohms and also at 2 ohms....

2x2 ohms, connect coils in series to get 4 ohm

2x4 ohms, connect coils in parallel to get 2 ohm.

don't do this without a good battery of course....

the amps are more current hungry than you think........

Subs are dual 4 ohm. I don't think the zx have new caps. But I did hook them up to my iPhone at home and it both sounds loud and clean.

One other thing. One of the zx amp led doesn't light up but it function fine. The owner I bought it from locally said it when out awhile back when he had it. Is there any parts inside I should look for?

disconnect them NOW from a battery and unload them, you can do this with a little resistor of 50 ohms or a little light....

you're taking a lot of risks with the old caps. they have to be replaced first... 6 in each amp.....

about the led.... so it's probably the green led you're talking about..... it could be the led itself but also another problem.

i think you better contact a technician here for recapping and looking for that led problem before you continue.........

I don't exactly know the specs on the R3 subs, but I bet you can run both subs off of 1 amp and it should still hammer! And use the other amp on highs/mids.

probably you're right, but there's a difference of running hard for 15 minutes or running hard all day long......

I just got a respond back from the original owner I bought the zx from. He told me they both have been service a year ago with new caps. Should I just take the cover apart and look for myself? I'm hoping to run both amp on the two sub since I'm already running a tantrum 600.4 on miss and high. Also just got my pld1 yesterday from a member here. Hoping to hook them all up soon.

So should I run each channel for each coil on the subs or in series and bridge the amps?

Take a photo of the right window on each ZX amp. From the photos we can likely determine if the caps have been replaced or not.
