Will I need one? I'm running the stock H/U from a Lexus IS350 and have no idea how much volts it puts out...

Do you have a line out converter? Does the stock HU have a set of RCA outs? The SLD44 does both L.O.C. and is line driver. You should put a line driver in if you can get one. Read the recent threads on line drivers.

Welcome to the forum. Beautiful car, what color is it?

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm a noobie with this audio stuff and decided to do my own install after reading a couple DIY articles...

I've recently installed an x400.1 with an rsd12d in a sealed box. The car came with touchscreen NAV with the HU built into it so I didn't want to take it apart. Instead, I t-tapped the stock sub, ran it into a rockford fosgate speaker level to line level rca, and ran the rca into the x400.1. I need to turn the gain to max just to get a decent level of output.

I've recently purchased the R15.0.1 just to give the rsd12d a little more juice, haven't installed it yet, I'm wondering if I'm going to need a line driver. I've read that the xenon series amps require a line driver, what about the octane R series?

thanks in advance

A line driver will be a very good option in this case unless the RF piece has a level adjustment. You may even just look at an SLD44 which has the converter and line driver in one unit.

BTW where you recently trying to sell an MQ on eBay............If so I was harassing you about it and was the one who pointed you here. Welcome to the Phorum.

The RF unit does come with a level adjustment, I have it at max, still doesn't do much. I guess at this point I'm looking at a line driver, or maybe a combo like the SLD44.

It was not me selling the MQ, you were harassing someone else

Hmm I just swamped out the x400.1 for the r15.0.1 and output is actually LESS, much less, even with gain at max. I guess a line driver is a must.

I called 3 bestbuys and 2 circuitcity's cause I didn't want to order online and wait, unfortunately none of their install guys have ever heard of a line driver...

This is getting weird, called 2 local car audio shops and none of them carry line drivers....

Guess I'll just have to order and wait :(

I just ordered one from egay and it took 3 days to get it. Not bad. Company's name is "The Cable Supply" also "RHC Trading". Give them a shot. 100 % feedback which is a rarity nowadays.
