Calm down guys... This could be an interesting question. Firstly I think nobody here had to pay more to have a triple darlington amplifier, also I think nobody lost SQ by using it. PG amps had won a lot of IASCA and EMMA trphys across the world. Seems the PG came alive again after AAMP.
Yeah man, we are all fans here, and I get your point, but actually this does not make all the stuff garbage nor special.
Then, I don't know what you consider mediocre, but if you had all this PG stuff you should know they did not stopped making great amps after ZPA. If you can't tell what speacial it has by yourself,you can take a look at professional reviews across the internet.
There is no miracle, and as a big part of american brands that changed your production to outside from USA seems that had some kind of problem, and lost a big part of their american consumers. By the other hand gained across the world.
Wich amplifiers do you like or consider to be good?
SS, PPI, Tru, Zed, US Amps, Zapco or Arc? Why?
By the way, PG just launched new Elites that has nothing but good parts (BurrBrown as used in some Zeds, Sanken as used in home audio...)

I too would love to hear more about smooth, who he is, and his past in audio and brands he likes as I am willing to bet if the details came out we would know who the true poser really is.... So far the best I could call you is a hater, but a hater of everything and everyone on here. Seems like he has alot of time on his hands to dig up dirt on people here but I am not suprised that he doesn't have many people that would want to be around him in real life. Shit if he is this annoying through a keyboard I would imagine he could cause anyone to want to cut out their own ear drums with a butter knife so they would not have to hear him.

Speaking of over rated amps... The Sony ES line of big red amps may have sounded decent, but the circuit boards were a freaking joke. I'd love to find one stupid cheap just to send to Erik to test though. Heh.

the old old gold ES amps were not all that shabby but they came/went pretty quick. Never was a big fan or the reds either and until this last year the explode line was the last thing I ever looked at with sony. I hear they are trying to get their 12v stuff back up to par now and hearing some good stuff.

I look at the Xplode line and the Kicker Comp line every time I get my oil changed at Wal-Mart. I don't take anything seriously that you can get at a store like that.
