normal phone cable or you can remove the connector and solder wires to the board directly. I hate stripping those 24 awg phone wires if you are not pluggin it into an amp and had to modify one last week like this to fit my current install.

On a related note, I was thinking about buying one of those RJ11/45 crimpers for jobs just like this. Would they be worthwhile or a waste of money?

They are handy to have, but with everyone having cell phones. I dont think Ive had mine out of the van since 2 years ago when my helper cut a ladies phoneline in two while we were laying carpet. If you found a pair at a pawn shop or yardsale maybe?

I was speaking specifically for jobs like the OP's. PG related stuff, lol. They are available on the bay with a bag of ends and a tester for $15.

I too do not own a home phone and rely only on a cell.

been installing for over a decade and working as a electronics tech for a few years too and have never thought about buying one. Although now it doesn't sound like a bad idea as I have a lot of cables in the new system that could be shortened rather then ball up the extra with wire ties. I hate extra cables and try to make them to length as often as possible but just never considered it for some funny reason.
