I have alway been a fan of old school subs. for some reason to me they sound better. I don't know why. I normally don't use alot of power in my systems but still like it to sound great.
i have a chance to pick up a kicker solo baric s15d. i like its a 15" sub and can be put into 1.5cub sealed box.
I had the very first single 10" in the early 90's and didn't like the output this looks to be a couple model newer i think.
Any thoughs on this speaker?
It will see about 500 watt rms

I wasn't a huge fan of the old Kicker Solobaric subs because they just weren't as efficient as other subs of their day. But, fitting them into the tiny boxes was a huge plus. To me, that was their sole application, much like today's shallow mounts being able to fit in skinny boxes. Today's Solobarics can't fit into the tiny boxes like the old ones could, so it has become just the name of their high end now, and they don't have the properties of the old ones.
But yeah, efficiency and total output because of that has always been a knock that I have had on Kicker subs.

its going to have a similar sound to the old 90s comps. it will take more power to get the output compared to a comp 15 with the same power of the same era. check the surround and make sure its not all dried out and hard. but it will get loud and low and have the great sound.

kicker can sound good as long as you can throw them enough power but I honestly think I heard more that turned me off then on in my time.

The enclosure has as much to do with sound and output as the sub does. Honestly, I would expect a modern JL 12w3 to be better than old Solobaric, but I don't know about the w0.

I would put them in a sealed box to save space and they should hit the lower end better than ported. You might have to give them some more power sealed but the sound will improve on the low end.I think sealed they need 1.25 cubes each.
