XLR Connectors for Sub

Post by quasig »

Hi all,
I am wanting to make a quick connection for my sub as I want to be able to easily remove it if I need the trunk space. It is a single 12" running of the bridged rear output of a xz475ti, i.e. 250W RMS. I purchased an XLR connector and socket as pictured, but am now worried, will this handle the current?
Thanks,
Greg

Xlr connectors should be good for 15 amps

I'm sure it will be fine but ideally it has been superseded by Speakon connector which would be the latest preferred method. Just do a search for Speakon connector for details.

PA speakers have very high currents running into them in many situations so I do not see any issue with a mere 250watts or so.

I agree, Speakon connectors are a far better choice.

Yes an XLR will work, but it is not optimal.

i 3rd the motion.

they even make speakons with 8pins, so you could run multiple 16awg wires if you are running a large amount of power

Thanks so much for the replies, just to confirm, it is for the connection from the amp to the sub.
I'll look up Speakon connectors.

Finished, went for the Speakon in the end. Great quality connector, very happy with the end result. Thanks for all the input everyone.

Fantastic! Is the alloy piece custom?

Yes, just quickly tuned it up. I also put an o-ring under the plug to make sure there are no air leaks.
