6.5" Subs

Post by Phoenixcolt »

Hey everyone, I have thought about mid bass in my rear doors but have struck that down because I wouldn't want the sound stage being pulled to the rear, but how about 6.5" subs in the rear doors?

I would mount them IB like I did the Rsd front components, sound deadening the door with Dynamat or Raamat plus Ensolite, and would power them at 150 watts max each (rear channels of JL HD600/4 currently not in use), and would LP them like a sub between 70-80 Hz likely with a steep slope so the mid bass doesn't bleed in.

Would it be worth it? Or would it be a lot of work for a small return? Would it sound clean or sloppy since I wouldn't be using a sized enclosure?

Right now I'm using a Ti12d Elite and Rsd components, but I will likely go back to my Rsd comps and my single Rsdc102 a little down the road because I like that trunk space. I would want to add the rear door subs to get me a little more output on kick drums and bass in rock, the rsdc is already plenty loud for rap and electronic, but a few more inches dedicated to bass could really liven up the low end of rock if this would work out.

I very seriously doubt you'd even hear them over the Ti elite sub. If anything, I'd play them from 70-120 so you could cross the mids higher, but even then I don't think it'd be worth it.
Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.

I was thinking the same that if you have the subs powered correctly adding a 6 to it playing as low as its I don't see what it would buy you. Maybe as an additional mid-bass if you like a good kick-drum but putting a 6 on top of a 12 to me would not be worth the time/$$$.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

Thanks guys, if I did the 6.5" subs, it wouldn't be until I put the Rsdc102 (10") back in.

The Elite sounds great and gives me a lot of kick drum, but I think after a few months, I will want to put the Rsdc 10 back in because the Elite takes up so much more space than the 10 did, so I was thinking about what I could do once I put the 10 back in to bump up most notably the kick drum bass.

The Rsdc 10 has plenty of output with electronic and rap, it surprises me all the time, but when the bass is less prevalent in rock music, I find myself wanting a little more making it to my ears, the Elite takes care of this and then some : ), but at the expense of a lot of trunk space.
