sub position in a suv-question??? please post

Post by kg1961 »

If i was to make a sub box for my 2 15" subs and face them forward toward the front of the car so i can make the back of the box with a plexi window to show off the focal red mutli magnet what would the pro or cons be.
normally i have always faced to the rear
the subs are 2 focal 15" 38vx they are mainly a sq sub
the car is a 2012 hyundai santa fe suv
lmk thanks again
Mike

You'll get less SPL with the subs pointed away from a reflective surface. That's pretty much the difference.
Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.

its enough to notice honestly. Almost any car I built a box for I would always try it facing different directions too see what it sounded like. If you want something different with a plexi window to show the speaker try a down-firing box with windows on both side maybe? Down firing is about the only position I have found that comes close to facing back. I always liked it as it also helped to soften any mechanical noise the sub makes.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

great idea. i have a guy that might make me a fiberglass top to my sub box so it will be rear firing and i will still see the magnets.
thanks again
