Ti600.4 "protect mode" after playing out of one channel

Post by Marmelademad »

Hi All.

I just finished deadening the first of my four doors in my car, and got the speaker installed and hooked up. I was eager to test if it had made any SQ difference, so I cranked that one channel up a little, not a whole lot. No distortion occured, and my JL Audio C2-650 speaker is rated at 60 Watts vs. the 90 Watts @ 4 Ohm per channel amp output. I noticed that the deep punchy bass drum was missing out a little. I run full range om my door speakers.
Suddenly after playing for about half a minute out of that one door speaker, the amp went into Protect mode, and has been like that since. I tried to unplug all of the speaker cables and signal cables from the amp, to prevent any ground shortage, but it still lights up the Protect mode LED. I believe that the amp has no built-in fuse, that could have blown, as that was not mensioned in the user manual. The power supply read 12,5 V.

Did I just fry my new amp by playing on one channel only?
Does the Protect mode come off automatically, or does it have to be reset somehow?
Has any one had similar issues with that amp?

Many thanks in advance! :)

did you disconnect them at the amp or at the speaker connection? Disconnect everything but power from the amp and see what it says.

I disconnected all wires, except power supply, at the amp.

rca's as well? it would be a long shot but sometimes if the cable gets pinched/shorted it can cause issues. If they are unplugged then I am sorry too say that something is now wrong with the amp.

Damn bud ...sorry to hear about the amp issue, but the warranty only covers Manufacturer / product defects  , not an end user "Uh-Oh ....shit" moment  . If you have the amp sent in for repair and the tech determines it was a user issue vs. Manufacturer, then you'll most likely be charged a repair fee and return shipping  , but hopefully it's just a faulty component or the amp just needs to reset  ...again, sorry to hear about your amp issue.

assuming you got this from an authorized manf at a shop they will probably just swap them out at the shop. If you got it through the mail and have to send it back to pg it might be an issue but I would not sweat it.
