R15.0.1

Post by linh811 »

I know it's not recommended, but I've been running 2 rsd12d's at 1 ohm. I'm curious as to how much rms power this amp is pushing at 1 ohm? I've emailed PG techs but they wouldn't give me a definite answer.

Thanks.

Did you you buy the rds's yet?

My guess is that it doesn't make much more RMS power but the peak power might increase a bit.

lol, they let go everyone who COULD give you an definite answer.

it probably isn't pushing much more then then 1000 watts.

i believe they have a circuit that detects the amount of current leaving the speaker terminals. If the current is high enough, the circuit limits the amount of voltage that the power supply can produce. This in turn limits the power output of the amp. So continuous power output remains about the same with the power composed of more current and less voltage.

basically the amp's circuits wont allow it to make more heat (heat from extra currant) then it could reasonably dissipate

Wow interesting. So you're saying the amp pushes 1000watts at 1 or 2 ohms? If thats the case, I'll probably just remove one of the rsd12's to regain some trunk space because I don't think I'm gaining THAT much more spl by splitting 1000w among 2 of them.

I would tend not to think your getting too much more power then the 2 ohm rating as thats where the power supply was design to peter out on this amp.
If it was not rated a 1 ohm I am sure the designers stopped at the 2 ohm level of power in the design of the power supply.

it only makes sense and it would be a waste of money and cost overhead to a builder overseas that can mean the difference between profit and loss for the year. Just MHO C :)

thanks for the replies. Everything you guys said makes sense. I'm definitely going back to 1 rsd12, because 2 of them were taking up my entire trunk. I guess if I ever get a better amp I can put the 2nd 12 back in.
