Speaker pillars for ti elite speakers

Post by Seanram »

I started to build a home audio set made out of car audio components.
What do i have so far:
Ti elite 12d is a sealed box.
2 sets of ti elite's components.
1 ti1200.1
2 ti200.2
2 large 12v power supplies.

One subject is still troubling me and i hope you Guys could help me out.
I'm building speaker pillars for the comp's.
The pillars are h 1.2m w 25cm d 30cm with brackets over the full length.

I was planning on making them sealed but now i'm wondering if shloud make them ported or not.
If so what type of port should i use?

I Will post Some pictures of the pillars later on.

Any help would-be welcome.
Thanks in advance.

This is my home made speakers using two ti elite tweeters one ti6 and one ti9m.

Enclosure is just over one cube. I put a 2"x6" flared port in the back panel.
I also used an mb quart 3 way passive crossover.
These are by far my favorite speakers.

It would be in you best interest to put the 6" and 9" in there own chamber. That 9 will beat the piss out of that 6 sharing the same air space. Also the Quarter xover is designed for 4 ohm drives. How ever you have your tweets wired you're either at a 2 ohm load or an 8 ohm load changing the effective xover points.

It could all be moot too as you're using an entirely different xover then what's range recommended. Try running active instead of passive.

They work and sound very good. No issues whatsoever. If the box was sealed I might be concerned, but it's ported so there is no issue with the 9" beating up the 6". It is mid bass not sub so I'm not worried a bit.

I owned a set of the Elite 6's before so I'm very familiar with them. I have not, however, owned a set of the 9's. Your 9 is over twice the cone area of the 6 (63.5 sqin vs 28.26 sqin), in due time, it will take its toll, but what do I know.

Bottom line, if it's pleasing to your ears then that's all that matters.

I know only that these worked out great. I am a kef speaker fan for home audio. And none of there enclosures have separate chambers for drivers. And the ti's are playing details in music that were missed with the kef's.
I cracked open an elite .2 this morning and hooked it up to the ti's and at 200+watt they are better than impressive. Maybe I got lucky. But I did my best to build a nice set of speakers. And with a dd3512 sub in an elite.1 to back the ti up. Well it's a bit insane. And this is just for the shop. Lol

By the way sorry for jacking the thread

There is a 2"x6" port in the back. The pics were of the enclosure as I was building them. I didn't have the port installed yet.

with all the speakers in the same cabinet I would probably recommend just sealing it up myself. Not even sure how you would go about calculating its length and just easier all around.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

bracing.

I think i'll seal up the pillars so no vented port an will make smaller "bookshelf" cabinets ported like you did.
Thank for the advice!!.

When they are finished I will post some pictures.
