I have, brand new in the box, a M25 and a M50 that I am considering selling. As old as they are, I'm sure they need to have the caps replaced. I am wondering, which would be better? Sell them brand new, untouched, OR go ahead and recap them and then sell.

you will get more if capped right.
most people will need to use them and will get less if not

Yea, re-capping is pretty well covered in this thread..http://www.phoenixphorum.com/viewtopic. ... lit=advice. I have no doubts about my ability to re-cap. Been there, done that quite a few times. I just wasn't sure how it would effect the value of the amps, being brand new in the box.

it depends.......

people, like me, who do the recapping themselves, prefer amps "never been touched",

other people will maybe prefer there already recapped.......

the advantage is, if they are recapped, you can connect them and give a listening test.......

if you have done it before, you can do it for sure........

if you don't have the right equipment and know how, sell them as is.......


but if i was you, and as they are brand new, if you recap them, i would keep them for myself........

Perhaps I could offer both ways. Depending on what the buyer wanted. Price them as they are or a bit higher to cover the cost of the replacement caps. Every amp I have (7, between PG, HiFonics, Kenwood or Orion) is "old school" that I bought new. All are used other than the PG amps, which were the last ones I bought. At 51 years old, I just don't think I'll ever use them. About time to pass them on to someone that will and enjoy them.

I too prefer to buy amps with original caps, so I can do my own work on them.

I think you have a good idea to offer them as is, or re-capped for a bit more.
