Amp Dilemma

Post by dcmcki »

So here is the dilemma....I am wanting to clean up my install and contemplating going to a single 5 ch amp set-up. I have recently sold off all of my Orion hcca's. I have 6.5 components up front, 6.5 coax out back and one Phoenix TI12d out back as well. I know the 12 needs lots of juice. Am I better off going to 2 amps or single. There just arent that many 5 ch's out there that put out enough wattage for that TI12d. Your thoughts?????

i thik you are going to need two amps if you want to maek that sub live up to its potential. many multi channels will make it play.

the xs6600 or ti 900.7 are good ones. but that sub can take (and love) as much power as you can give it.

ooh....if you are fortunate enough to get your hands on the PG roadster 66 when they come out you would be set...... 85x4 with a 600x1 sub section

Take a look at the Memphis Belle I think they made a version with ~1k watts which may be enough to get it to boogie well but not up to it's full ability.
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.

I appreciate the guidance. I am still torn. The more and more I think about it the two amp system is going to be the way to go. It is what I know. I am such a flip-flopper. Just need to go ahead and commit. What is the output of the TI600.2 bridged down to 2ohms mono? Are there going to be any over heating problems? My Orion's got hot but they always ran hot no matter what. I need to get some juice to that TI12D. Thanks again all.

How about a Xenon 200.4 to power your front speakers and your sub. You can use your head unit to power your rears.
Just a thought.

I think the 600.2 makes 600 wrms at either 2 or 4 ohms mono.

IMO opinion, if your biamping the sub, then go bigger. Put at least 800-1200 watts per VC (total of 1600+) . If you go the Ti 600.2 you would only be putting ~1200 watts total. The sub can take WAY MUCH MORE than that.

I speak from experience.

I am not gonna use deck power. I have to take advantage of the 8v preout on my Eclipse 8454 hu. I will probably try and procure a couple of TI's or ZX's if I can find them. I think that is my best bet. Everything else is just too iffy. Now all is left to do is find a good 4ch and 2ch/mono.

a ti12D is not a ti elite ;) it has an rms of 500, the ti 600 will rock it.

it wont make much more power at 2 ohms bridged than 4 (scroll to bottom - http://www.phoenixgold.com/webfaq/ZXTI.htm )

at 2 ohms, it wont make too much because of the fan, but still make sure you have some beefy wire going to it. that thing will pull some currant.

My fault. It is TI12D Elite. I guess I did not specify in original posting. That certantly clears up the output with that FAQ page. The more you feed it the more you get out. Isn't that always the case?. I have 1/0 all the way back to second battery and then to dist blocks. Also 5 farad stinger cap. May need to go bigger on alternator at some point but need $ for amps now. No Amps--No Sound.

oh, that changes things. (sorry mando)

no multi channel amp i know of will drive (that actually got produced) will power a ti elite and your speakers.

that sub will take basically anything you can throw at it.

as mando said, a pair of ti600's would still be leaving it hungry.

a pair of rsd 1200.1's goes nicely with it.

sounds like you are good on the cable side of it at least.

No worries Brian. I always get them mixed up myself.

The two RSd1200.1's would rock that thing! Good Idea, and you can get them dirt cheap on fleabay.
