Under seat box for a gmc Sierra 2500hd

Post by Drock »

Has anyone built or has pics of any custom under seat boxes?
I absolutely don't want a prefab looking shitty box. So I'm looking for ideas. I'm almost finish building my newest enclosure. Should be ready to test tomorrow. Will post pics. I'm really happy with the design so far. I have lots of ideas on cosmetics. But I'm curious what others have done.
I've been searching picks online but I have yet found a nice looking under the seat box.

What sub (notice how I didn't say "subs"?) are you trying to cram under there?
Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.

I was hoping to have pics with the drivers installed by now. But I cut the stupid holes out to small. Now I have to dick around trying to make them larger. And then I need to paint the box again. I ran out of paint again.

Holy shit, lol. The elites move a serious amount of air.
I want to take video. But my wife will loose her shit if I turn it up again.

Lol.

I like your design, looks good. Your seat must be spaced up.

Can't wait to hear it. How are you going to fit the amps and have a rear seat for the kids?

Amps are mounted behind the seat.
And the seat is being lifted 2.5".
I don't have time this week, plus it's to cold, so it'll probably be next week when I get the mounting brackets done.

Wait until you experience cabin gain. LOL

Box looks epic as hell. Do you have something planned to keep your kids from putting their heels through the subs, you know aside from the threat of bodily harm?

Just trying out the elite.5 at 1 ohm on two elite12d4's in my new enclosure. It's pretty impressive. I can't wait to finish the box and get it installed.
The output seems like it's about twice what the old sealed enclosure did.
And I'm surprised that I can't really tell any difference in how tight the bass is verses ported and sealed.
And I am using a set of ti 6 comps active just sitting on my bench run off the .5. I can't say enough how much I love the elite amps. The .5 is fantastic.

Going to hookup the ti21600.5 next.

Doh: well I was impressed with the sub channel before I realized I had the lpl was plugged in. It was turned all the way down.
Now that I've turned it up, 1100watts to the subs is more than enough to be plenty loud.

Too bad you don't have dual 2 Elite 12's. You could very easily get by with a pair of Elite.5's, send 1150 rms to each 12, and run your full range speakers off of the other 8 channels. The rear channels have a BP crossover option, so you could even cross your midbass drivers right on the amps. In hindsight this is what I should have done with mine. As it is I find myself wanting another Elite.4 that I don't have room for.
Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.

So you're saying that you don't want your Elite.1 anymore? Send to me, I'll take.

Sounds like the 5 is performing well. That's great. Glad it made it to you in good working order.

Here's an updated pic. Had issues with the mdf splitting where you see the clamps.
Think I need two or three more coats of paint, then a few clear coats to get it like glass. I tested it a bit a few days ago. It was pretty lmpressive, but had a couple air leaks that were very noticeable.
They are fixed now.

check out http://www.subthump.com

I bought one of their enclosures for my 06 crew cab 2500, and it is well worth the money. They are constructed very well and fit perfectly under the rear seat with no mods necessary. Not a ton of airspace, but they will hold a decent sized sub. I only have one 10" kicker solo-baric (old school s10d) in my cab and it hits plenty hard for my daily driver. I couldn't imagine what your subs would sound like in their Drock!

I have one of those boxes installed at the moment. They do work very well. But not for a high excursion sub like the elite12 or the dd 3512's I have.

That Elite is so sick. I wish they would have done gold traces and accents like the old school stuff.

Drock, make sure you post up some pics of how in the hell you got all this to fit in a 2500HD cab!

Sorry, Every time I try to post the vid it just adds it as a pic instead. Trying to figure it out.
I just figured out my rta today, I tried measuring my current installed sealed enclosure under the seat with the standard mic and hit 136 with mic at the headrest. From what I understand the mic is maxed at 136 db. So I'll try again tomorrow with the new high spl 170 mic. Had troubles getting it to work today.
Once I know it's working proper, I'll swap to the new ported enclosure and see what happens. I'm pretty sure it'll be up in the140's were I was planning to be. The elites are finally starting to break in I think and are getting a bit louder.
My goal is not to be an spl freak, just enough to be impressive for show and tell but still clean, hard hitting bass. I have four sets of comps so they keep up pretty good so far. If I ease off the cube a bit the bass blends pretty nice still.
My kids were pretty embarrassed today when I turned it up for like 30 seconds. Lol
Wish I could get the bid to work. The kids had fun shredding paper in the port for like an hr.
