Coustic RTA-33

Post by Drock »

Just acquired a new toy today, it's an acoustic RTA-33. I don't know how to use it yet but I'm determined to figure it out. I think it's pretty fucking cool. And it's a single din pull out unit. Lol
It came with the standard mic and a high spl mic. But there was no cord for high spl mic. It's a 1/8" stere headphone style plug to female xlr end.
I bought the cable this afternoon but when I tried it out it does not work.
I don't know if it's the cable or the mic. Is there anyway to figure out which one is the problem?

Try a different mic?
Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.

I think they were a bit of a gimmick if I remember correctly. I think I remember hearing that its RTA version of the radio shack spl meter. You know the cheap one I think was around $20 that is a general spl mic but not really all that accurate. But me I know I love lights and buttons and tweeking/playing with them so I could have some fun with it if the price were right.

As for the mic as he said you can try another one but you want too try to match the #'s on them or it could cause a problem.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

I think it is the cable. The standard mic cable looks to be 1/8" stereo plug so that's what I bought for the high spl mic. But it doesn't work. When I pulled out the plug a bit It came on, so I'm thinking maybe it's a mono plug that's balanced.
